Sigged it because it's hilarious.... But I am a little concerned with VR's sudden Fletcher Fetish.... ;)
*puts pants back on* What sudden fetish? I was on the Fletch bandwagon last season, and backed up my support with stats that showed that Fletcher was one of the most important members of the team. I'm only getting carried away now because Fletcher is ascendant after an indifferent beginning of the season and it's fun to put it in the face of the doubters (you know who you are).
Now if he would only grow that moustache...
Alright, I'm going to come clean. I'm only doing it because he's a Scot.

OK, not neccessarily a tech head q, but you guys are most likely to know so I'll ask here.
I have some movies in .avi format that are very quiet, a lot quieter than a standard movie. Does anyone know of any programs i can put these movies through that can boost the sound and have me save the new, louder file?

I think we're both still around, just in the process of packing. My flight isn't until 10 PM tonight, his is in the evening as well.
To try to answer your question about the video file, unfortunately there isn't much cheap software I can think of that would do that. You'll probably have to buy a program designed specifically for amateur video editing.
Now then back to packing...

TMPGEnc will do it as will a bunch of others. Be warned, it's a very complicated/daunting program to get to grips with...... well it is for simpletons like me. :)

I was given a link by a friend about 10minutes ago for that, lol, I'm not sure I want to try it... it warns you that it often loses sync with the video file..which kinda defeats the purpose a little, eh? ;) Looks like a lot of hard work too convert to mpeg re encode and cnvert back to avi... that'll take all night.. need it for tomorrow.. :(
NM, I guess i'll have to stick to quiet AVI's then :)

the main issue is when those .avi files were encoded the audio stream was probably done at a lower quality. So trying to boost that sound may result in a higher pitch but at the cost of distortion.
ur best option might be to try playing those .avi files in WMP and then enable the equaliser settings and bump up the middle freq
or download VLC media player(free) and once the movie is playin right click choose audio/equalizer and full bass and treble.
lemme know if that alleviates ur issue a bit.

Have you read through this?
http://www.divx-digest.com/articles/normalize_avi.html
I've used virtual dub in the past for other video tasks and the guide on there seems pretty simple. TBH I usually mess around with all sorts of things without really knowing I'm doing until I get something approaching what I wanted.
One other suggestion....... http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/
That's about the best I can do, I'll leave you in the hands of more knowledgeable people before I embarrass myself.
