Erm, I don't really know how to word this but does anyone know where I could get hold of some software that reduces the file size of jpeg images?

I've got some largish pictures, (Kb wise) that are all getting on for 1MB each and need to somehow compress them but don't really want to lose visual quality. Is it at all possible? Would converting them to another format cut down the file size?

Cheers.

Most cameras that come with their own software already have some sort of image reducer.

If you don't have that, you can usually open the file in MS Paint and reduce its size there with the Stretch/Skew tool. You see, most files that are over 1 meg are usually very large (length and height i mean), and if you Stretch/Skew down to 25%, you'll end up with a file that's much much smaller.

Now if you have full albums of pics that you need to scale down and don't feel like doing it one at a time, you may want to try this: http://www.download.com/XnView/3000-2192_4-10639348.html?tag=lst-0-6

Not sure it has the capability, but it might be your best shot.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to FifaRay007 again. :(

Many thanks. I actually had that program on my machine a while ago but got rid as I hardly ever used it and in the meantime forgot all about it. :o I'll give it a go as well as trying out the method with 'paint'.

Thanks again. :)

For some strange reason, I cannot paste. I can copy sort of, but I cant paste, with the mouse or the keyboard. I also cannot click on any links to open a new webpage as it will load, but the page just wont open, and neither will the window.

Whats wrong with it?

Browser type and version you are using?

Not knowing that, you could try running ad-aware and some other spyware removal tools, including a good anti-virus app. Other than, reinstall the browser...

I actually didnt try to paste in any other application. But I will try all the suggestions when I get back home. Thanks again.

I've had that problem before, but all I did was clean the hardrive with window washer, then restart.

Which is quite frankly ridiculous because it limits the amount of United I can listen to on a regular basis.

If you go to the Manchester United website, you can become an E-Member and get free live radio for EVERY match of the season..League, Fa Cup, and Europe. It's Century FM radio stream, and I've never had a single problem with it. This is what I use for most live matches, as my internet is not good enough for streaming matches anymore.

Oh, I didn't realise they had started doing that. I recall they had stopped for a while a few years ago.

Yeah, it's not bad. And you can't beat the completely biased commentating.

The only annoying part is 15 minutes of sh*te commercials at halftime.

This computer is urging me to put my foot through it.

Can anyone tell me why my screen, well, entire PC freezes routinely from day to day?

It's like a 5 second pause where everything is frozen, if I'm listening to music it pause and then carries on as normal once the pc decides to unfreeze. When the unfreeze happens my screen also flickers off and then back on again. Is this a memory or gfx card problem, perhaps?

Too much porn=virus no doubt. Format time methinks.

Of course thats just what I would think if I were you, I don't know this situation. ;)

edit: But generally computers start to run like crap after a few years and I have had computers do stuff like that. I'm currently planning to install some Linux on my old computer at home that barilly runs anymore.

If it still makes sense, I'd suggest the obvious - more RAM and a bigger hard drive. If mom starts complaining, it might be better to just get a new pc altogether.

could be driver conflict. like the driver is trying to access something but it can't. also, it could be a heat problem. not enough ventilation as well. nside note , but if you've had the machine for a while open up the case and try to clean it. remove all the dust. to me it it sounds like a driver conflcit.right click my computer, propertis, harware, device manager. go through the hardware list and see if there's an exclamation point.

No conflcts there, which is surprising. It defnitely has trouble accessing new programs and so forth. I'll give it a good clean over the weeked, tis very dusty. Bah, stupid computers are even more trouble than women
