sorry for stupid questions, but I am confusing myself in your connundrum. :D But are you trying to set up a network to transfer files or just to access the internet wirelessly?
1st one.

At this point should I pretend to know how to do that?? :D

err..
wired modem> router> wired router > desktop> router/laptop
Ok I guess I don't understand why you're using so many routers. Assuming your "wireless" router is actually a wireless/wired combination like most I see, this should be fairly simple.
If you want to transfer a bunch of files just once, the easy thing to do is to hook up the desktop computer to the router with an ethernet cable, and do the same with the laptop computer. Then set them both to be in the same workgroup in their network settings (My Computer -> Properties -> Computer Name), and they should be able to "see" one another just fine in My Network Places.
Go on and create a folder on the "destination" computer (i.e. the one you want to transfer the files to) and right-click and set its Sharing properties so that you can put files in there from another computer. From there it should be pretty easy.
You can do the same wirelessly, but transfers won't go as quickly.

What he said.
And what I was saying consists of checking some settings to make sure that they are set up to be able to share with each other, which is basically what the flash does (I think) just you do it yourself instead to make it its all right.

I have a question.
I recorded a video with my digital camera and transferred the video over to the computer. I wanted to put in up on youtube but it only allows videos that are 100M or less. I was wondering if there was a way to compress my video a bit so that I could put it up on the net.
Anyone?

Trim the ends off? Lower the resolution?
all this can be done with video editing software. Movie Maker maybe or some other free trial software you may be able to find.

OK, it's not really a computer tech question, but this seemed the best place to ask.
I currently use Microsoft Money to keep track of my expenses. It works well and all, but now that I've got the mortgage to handle and stuff, I'm wondering if it's the best. Going into the new year I'm thinking I may re-evaluate it and see if maybe Quicken or something might be better.
What do you guys use and can you recommend a better product?

I feel like I'm losing my mind. I'm sure I'm just missing something stupid . . . but here's the problem:
Some program on my laptop is playing the music from The Godfather over and over (seriously). I have open 5 Word documents and my IE and that is ALL. I open Windows Task Manager -- nothing else running. Checked the DVD player; empty. I've closed IE; music still playing. I would just reboot, but I'm fascinated. What the hell is going on?

Virus?
Or maybe she's just been very disrespectful to the family...
One other thing is that in Task Manager, go to the processes and sort by Memory Usage. Sometimes something is running while hidden, so to speak.

Virus?Running Avast now . . .
Edit: Update: I am at the library (as ever) and I am logged into the internet via the library's wireless. When I sign on to their system, I always get a little pop-up at the bottom of my screen which allows me to log-out when I finish (which is actually not necessary, as it logs you out automatically when you shut down the computer in any case). Anyway, I just closed the pop-up without logging off, and the music stopped. So, I know more about the problem now. However, it doesn't make any sense. The best I can figure is, yesterday was the last day of classes, and the computer geeks are just screwing around with the library's wireless system. . . I hope it's nothing more than that.
I also know that I am currently surrounded by people with laptops and no headphones (I hear that annoying musical flourish everytime they turn on and off their systems); and no one else is playing music or frantically examining their computer. . . Weird. Hopefully that's the end of that.

Ok, another question. This time it's serious.
For the past 2 weeks or so, I can't get my laptop to charge consistently. I plug it in and the screen flashes dark to bright, dark to bright, etc (it's usually dark when on battery power, light when on AC power). Eventually, after I jack with the connection between the power adapter and the laptop, it will stay bright/charging. The slightest jiggle after that can make it lose the connection, however. It is getting progressively worse, so I'm worried I really need to get it fixed before I can't get it to charge at all.
So, I just called Gateway (it's a Gateway MX6124, about a year old and out of warranty, btw) and they said I needed a new motherboard. Which sounds like total BS to me.
I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions (1) about what might be wrong. Could it be the motherboard? And (2) if you were me (think cheap and effective), what would you do? There are a couple of small computer repair companies here, also the Geek Squad from Best Buy or whatever; do you think they'd rip me off any less than Gateway repair?

I doubt it's the motherboard, probably a power issue or maybe a bad battery problem. Sounds like your power connection is dodgy. TBH, I have never dealt with the Geek Squad or any of these other places. I would guess they might be better off with them but maybe other have had some sort of experience.

Sapph, try getting a new battery from best buy or compusa first, see if it solves anything (you can always return it back if it doesn't).
