Also do a BIOS upgrade to the latest version. A lot of manufacturers support more/aggresive memory timings in newer releases..that would be the first thing u shld try. also go to the crucial n asus support pages and check for any compatibility issues

Thanks for the extra info sidpaul, I will be doing all of these things once my comp crashes again. I'm running Prime95 right now and wanted to see what results that gave. I've got a checklist of things to do when the machine crashes though :)

lol mtp07, unfortunately my comp is practically on censor mode right now.. any attempt at 'viewing' would most certainly be blue screened.

No Bad MTP that is how you get these types of problems in the first place.

Of nothing wrong. It's ok as long as you split time evenly between BS and that.

OK I've updated my mobo drviers, but the machine is still crashing and blue screening...at first it seemed to have done the trick and then...crash #1...#2....#3

cam i asl what internet browser most of you guys are using? The problem seems to be a lot morefrequent with i.e 6 then it has been with maxathon...in fact it hasn't crashed once since i've started using maxathon..which was about 30mins ago...which is good going.. i'm going to the the latency checks and timing tomorrow and see if they help.

Also, does anyone use Azerus and if they do do they find it causes them any problems? My machine is almost g'teed to crash when Azerus has a heavy load. What gives?

I assume you mean Azureus? Haven't used it on Windows, but I would think that a program like that would heavily utilize memory and swap space, which could make the problem worse.

I occassionally get problems with the performance of my PC when using Azureus, meaning that everything runs really slowly and not just my internet resources. The problem continues even after I shut down the program and I only get back up to full speed by re-booting.

Then again, your machine sounds like it's infinitely better than mine and I always put it down to my computer being crap. I can't even run Football Manager 2006 for more than an hour with 4 leagues selected and a small database without getting the dreaded "Windows is running low on memory" message.

I love my 4am posts, interesting what you brain deems as a pass when you're half awake :D

with regards to Azureus, I've been told it does indeed put a huge demand on your comp and slows everything down even when you have a lot of RAM, I was just wondering if it could contribute to crashes and if there was a better alternative.

Tests ongoing guys. :)

I am so lazy with such things it is untrue. It fits in with the category of 'yeah i'll do it tomorrow' when tomorrow never comes. lol. But now I'm going to clean up my act.

Guys, my comp seems to have been fixed by simply updating the mobo drivers. :) It hasn't crashed for 6hrs and that my friends IS a miracle as it was crashing every 2minutes before.

Thanks one and all. Will be back if anything goes wrong. Fingers crossed not though!

My computer was sluggish, so I put Fletcher on the wallpaper. Suddenly everything is working together, surpassing it's past performance.

Wow, that's great news, DS. Sadly it didn't work for me back when I tried it, but great that it seems to have resolved your problem for now.
