I've got a Canon, but its basically the same for any USB digital camera. Definitely try plugging in other USB devices as suggested, and if you have another USB port (I'm almost sure you do, since I have an eight-year-old computer sitting around with two ports), try them as well.

In retrospect, I guess my question was incredibly stupid. :D

I've tried several of the USB ports, all with the same results.

Check the camera itself when it's plugged in. On mine, once I plug in the camera, a menu pops up on the screen on the camera, asking what I wanna do. Only after I say, "Connect to computer" does my computer recognize it.

If this don't work, I'd check the company website. Good luck!

Ok, this may be a dumb question, and I may already have the answer, but I'm gonna ask anyway.

Basically I want to set up a home network so I can share files between my laptop and desktop, and also be able to print directly from my laptop. I have it partially set up, with my desktop able to access my laptop, but not vice versa.

My connections are as follows: Cable modem is connected to a wireless router, desktop is connected directly to the router (via ethernet cable) and the printer is connected to the desktop. Laptop obviously has wireless capabilaties. I have set up a home network on both, and therefore can see the laptop files from my desktop.

So, is it possible to see my desktop files (and printer) from my laptop under the current configuration or do I need to have a wireless card in my desktop to have it all work?

Ok well, you shouldn't need a wireless card in your desktop because you're not connecting wirelessly to the router. Do you have file sharing set up properly on your desktop? That is, at least one folder needs to be shared on the desktop. Also does the "name" of your desktop show up at all in the Network Neighborhood on your laptop?

Yea, on my desktop, on the network places, I see the shared folders for both the desktop and the laptop. I'm able to copy files from the desktop to the laptop as well.

Tomorrow I'll check the to make sure the sharing properties are set up correctly.

OK, My 300gig drive has been frazzled during a massive ******** up of this comp.. I am trying to reformat the drive. I have tried disk management and Partition Magic 8.0.

In Partition Magic the drive is highlighted as 'BAD' and when I try to format it it says error bad argument in sector 4.

Is there anyway for me to fix this drive or is it caput?

You just want to reformat the drive, right? Which OS do you have installed? What happens when you try to run it from command prompt?

Windows XP installed. I don't know how to format in DOS. Is that /format <whichever drive> or is it something else?

Do you have Windows XP installation CDs?

Yea, was hoping to avoid that method, but I'll give it a shot. Thanks. :)

I did the Windows boot CD format and windows now says the drive is fine or 'healthy' according to disk management, but when I test it in partition magic 8.0 or executive diskeeper I still get the same messages as before. What gives?

The drive is now reading as 100% empty in my computer and I can access and dump stuff there...but...Partition Magic still says it's 'bad' and still gives the same 'bad argument' message as before the win boot CD format...is the drive ********ed?

I have a couple games on the Tivo I would like to save for a bit. There is a USB port on the back of the Tivo, is it just a simple as plug it into the computer and the Tivo will act as an external hard drive?

Don't think that'll work unless you hack into the OS (a Tivo is basically a Linux computer running the Tivo software). There are ways to do it, but you'd still need a different cable I believe since I've never seen a USB-to-USB cable. The USB port is mainly used for wireless ethernet adapters.

To get stuff off of my Tivo, I have a video capture box like this one (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00030ATTO/sr=8-1/qid=1150473513/ref=sr_1_1/102-6584618-9440932?%5Fencoding=UTF8). I just use the s-video and analog audio output on the Tivo, hook it to the input of the video capture box, and then plug the output of the box into the Firewire (should be USB capable too) port on my computer. It gets recognized as a camcorder, so any video editing program should be able to work with it.

Knew it wouldn't be as easy as I hoped. I'll see if I can work it out, thanks.

Anyone ever encountered spyware called SpyQuake? I'm having a hell of a time trying to get it off my parent's computer for them. It seems to have blocked my access to the registry.
