Today, I actually opened up my CPU case (1st time ever), put in an ethernet card, rerouted my cable modem through it, and hooked up a wireless router for my laptop and cpu. I'm coming to you wireless now!! (This couch sure is comfier than my desk chair).

To some of you computer geeks, I'm sure that sounds like everyday stuff. But it took me four hours and about a dozen calls to tech support. (In fairness, after I installed the card, my comp was taking over 15 minutes to start up, when it wasn't frozen on a black screen).

Anyway, I don't need any help; I'm just here to gloat. :D

You should be neg repped for this ! You should ask us first. :p

You should be neg repped for this ! You should ask us first. :pI thought, plug in the card, connect the cable, VOILA!! Instead, I get some black screen with my mouse pointer doing trippy tracers. I couldn't get to you if I tried -- my computer was seemingly fried (Apparently, it helps if you push the card ALL THE WAY IN  ). No internet, no startup in safe mode, just blank screen.

Does it help if I tell you that I was thinking of this thread, knowing you guys could've figured it out in under an hour?

Er.. well I hadn't thought about that. :o I'm going to edit my post now..........

But anyways, I couldn't have helped you, as far as I know about the ethernet cards, you DO just plug it in and boot up. I dunno.

I get alot of "I've never seen THAT before" regarding computers, cars, phones, etc. I think it's because I'm one of those "just smart enough to be dangerous" kind of people.

Anyway, everything's working wonderfully now. I'll let ya know if I'm having any problems.

Good to hear it worked out... tech support can be useless more often than not.

I'm now using Firefox for my browser. I still don't know what the difference is, but I feel cool.

Welcome to the light side, Luke.

You'll notice the difference, plus its a whole lot faster than IE.

However... does anyone else notice that firefox takes up a HELL of a lot of memory when it runs? Something like 80k on the system management  I slow down after about 3 hours of websurfing/pseudo-study/WSM. :(

Now I have to see if I can bring someone else into the light, someone who still believes in IE. (I wonder what browser my grandfather uses.)

Yeah, Firefox has issues with memory leaks. Hopefully its being worked on, but if you have enough memory it shouldn't be an issue.

I am using IE, and trust me, if you are building sites, supporting Mozilla is not fun at all.

Here's another tech question. I recently purchased an mp3 player, not an ipod, but would like to use itunes. What is the best way to convert downloads from itunes into mp3 so that I may put them on my player?

Didn't know where to post this... I'm going to Italy on thursday and was thinking of buying a PSP to kill the boredom on the 8 hour flight. Was wondering if anyone has any experience with it and is it worth the cash?

Dude, I was gonna post this in the Anger thread actually, but I'll post it here I guess.

First, I want to say that the PSP is a great little device with a gorgeous screen for watching videos and some damn entertaining games (I currently have Lumines and MLB 06, both are great). I recommend buying one in general.

However, the dead pixel thing is seriously pissing me off. I bought one last weekend, it had 4 dead pixels, I exchanged it. The one I got on Monday had 3 dead pixels, I exchanged that one. The third one I got has one "large" dead pixel and a bunch of little artifacts in the corner that may or may not be dead pixels. I'm a laid back person, so I am going to try exchanging one more time before I get ridiculously pissed off at Best Buy. Keep in mind I paid $30 for the Protection plan, otherwise they wouldn't have done the exchange.

So in short, PSP is a great device with really ************ quality control. My suggestion is to inspect it very closely when you take it home if you get one. Make sure there are no imperfections when the screen is red, green, blue, white, or black.

Other than that, I've been very happy with it. Got a bunch of videos and pictures loaded onto the 1 GB memory card (sold separately, but well worth it). They look really nice, but again if you have deal pixels, they will be a distraction, so I highly recommend getting the protection plan and, if possible, checking for defects in the store before buying.
