Well if its the school's firewall (I'm not sayign they have one) then you can't do anything about it. It's just like a work firewall. YOU don't have a firewall do you? Like McAfee or ZoneAlarm or anything on the computer?

I use the anti-virus that the school forces us to use, but no McAfee or Norton or anything like that. Also, to use the internet the school forces me to log into a Cisco agent.

That pretty much means I'm screwed, right?

Are you on wireless? Why do you have to log into a VPN?

Yeah, I'm on wireless. It's the school's network or whatever, so to use the internet you have to use their stuff and log into the Cisco agent.

So an update to the torrent: I went to sleep last night and the thing was still plugging away at .5 kb/Sec. I woke up this morning and it was going at 70 kB/Sec. Needless to say, a pleasant surprise. I've already got 1.6 GBs downloaded overnight, but I did have to put it on pause this morning to watch the match. Great way to wake up though. :)

Thanks to everybody for their help last night. :)

Sorry, didn't see your post last night for some reason.

Bbut nonethless since its working.. what I was going to say doesn't apply.

I was going to say plug into your land ethernet if you can, but don't worry about it now. ;)

Well, if the problem would have persisted, and your advice would have worked, then I would have repped you. But since it didn't... :D

Great news.

Yes, I believe originally you said that you weren't connected to any seeds, and that would indeed have slowed things down a bit. Getting just one seed involved can speed things up drastically not just for you but for your peers. From that point onwards its usually smooth sailing.

One other thing, as long as it doesn't get you in trouble with your school, is that its generally good etiquette to have a share ratio of at least 1.0. That is, you upload as much as you download. Depending on what program you have (I've used ABC and Azureus), there should be a Share Ratio number listed with your torrent, and its nice to allow it to seed after you fully download until that number is at least 1.0.

No problem there. I'm downloading an average of 40 kb/Sec and uploading an average of 60 kb/Sec.

And I just passed the 2 GB mark. :)

Alright, I ran into a slight problem with the Futurama download that I knew about before I started but didn't want to deal with it until I had it downloaded. All of the files are .avi , so I need to convert them into whatever a regular DVD file would be so I can burn them onto discs and play them in any DVD program I wanted. Again, any help is appreciated.

Are you just going to view them on your computer? If so, leave them as avi files and use a program like VLC to use them.

If you want them to be able to play in a regular DVD player (like one that connects to a TV), then I think most comercial DVD authoring software can do that. The software I have on my PowerBook is called "Toast", but I'm pretty sure anything Windows-based will have that capability.

You lost me chief.

No, I want to burn them onto DVD discs to put in a regular DVD player.

So you're saying that what I already have on my computer to burn stuff should be able to make that conversion?

Clearly he's referring to this absolute classic tale of lust and obsession.

Probably. Depends on which program you use for DVD authoring/burning.

What's that, like a remake with old people in it or something?
