THOUSANDS of soccer fans face a nervous wait over the next few days to find out if they have tickets to the greatest show on Earth next year – the World Cup in Germany.
The Football Federation of Australia's allocation of tickets goes on sale to the public today, but demand will far exceed supply. More than 100,000 fans could be chasing as few as 2190 tickets for the Socceroos pool matches in June.
The FFA and the Fanatics tour group have jointly set up a website – www.ffatravel.com.au – dedicated to ticket and tour sales.
Application forms went online yesterday and sales can be made on a first-in, first-served basis from 8am today. The FFA has advised people to send in their applications as soon as possible by e-mail or fax.
Fanatics founder Warren Livingstone said demand for tickets had been overwhelming, with more than 28,000 application forms downloaded by early yesterday afternoon.
"If you times that by four (the maximum allowable ticket allocation per form), that's potentially 112,000," he said.
But he warned that the majority of those hopefuls would be disappointed. The FFA has been allocated only 2190 tickets for the first match against Japan in Kaiserslautern, 3630 for the blockbuster against Brazil in Munich, and 2662 for the clash against the Croatians in Stuttgart.

Did the USA get a larger number?
Didn't USSF say that FIFA wouldn't allow email applications???

Yes, but to be accurate, they said FIFA would not allow the USSF to accept e-mail applications, not that FIFA would not accept e-mail applications.

The phrase 'processed on a first-come-first-serve basis' is what I am referring to here. If they are processed (not just confirmed) as they come in (my assumption) then you would expect to hear before the end of the period. There is no reason to wait...there is no 'how do I balance who gets what tickets' to deliberate on.
Probably bastards like me are the reason some of you have to wait.
[WARNING -- self-indulgent "poor me" description of faxing difficulties ahead]
My fax went through at 3:11pm the Monday of ticket sales. I watched it, all the secretaries watched it, and I immediately documented the time sent (yes... it is an old fax). When checking the fax log the next day to confirm that US Soccer received the fax, the log stated that one page was sent, but an error also recorded. So... (a) do I abide by US Soccer rules and not send a second fax, thereby risking cancelling out the first fax as stated, or (b) do I hold out, get some answers US soccer, and hope that the confirmation comes (this by the way is exactly what US soccer told me to do)?
Yes, I know, your saying to yourself, "this guy is focked!", and likely so, but I was specifically told to "do nothing" and to "save ALL documentation of applications and fax logs at the time of transmission", then if I did "not hear from US soccer by Monday (today -- which I did not), then to send them the email (describing the entire scenario) to them Monday". This I did at 8:30am today... have been waiting ever since.
So, my question is... if US soccer intends to honor a "first come, first serve" ticket allocation, and my fax was a malfunction of one of there machines and this can be "proven", then who is to say that my order does not supercede all those that were met AFTER 3:11pm on Monday, Dec-12? I don't have a clue how to answer that, nor an I casting judgment on anyone or any method or any technical difficulty. It was luck of the draw and I was unlucky. HOWEVER, I was led to believe I would have a chance (possibly just a chance in hell, but a chance) at this lottery, so I will be holding US soccer accountable for that.
Tickets or not... I am there. And I hope to see all your faces drinking your aces off when we help knock the Italians out of this tournament on the 17th!!!

Yeah that definitely sucks on your part , but I think USSF will find a way so if you were one of the firsts you will get tickets , at least we should hope so .
If I get my tickets , I will see you in kaiserlaughten the night we knock out the Italians! :D

My fax went "through" at 1:15 pm Monday. I had verification via the fax transmission record. I emailed US Soccer until they replied, faxed them everything I have, and if the confirmation numbers are related to time (109*) they honored the time of the fax.
Stay on them, and good luck.
Oh, this is also why it will be a week or so before tickets start going out. They will first compile lists of all requests in all categories, then determine what they are selling, then match them up. It could take a while folks.

Excellent question and one I didn't have an answer to until I jotted printed out the Fax Log the next morning. Apparently the fax machine is an hour off. I mentioned this to US Soccer and they looked at it, but obviously since they have NO real proof of this, they simply awarded me the 4:13pm time that was recorded on the fax log. Confusion, I know.
I did on my cover sheet, immediately write down the date and time of transmission [which was 3:11pm Dec-12 - hour and two minutes off (???)], since the fax machine I used is old-school and doesn't spit out a printed verification of the fax being sent/received. Had it, I would not have needed to go through all this mess.
Nice thing is US soccer at least took the time to look into it, like I had been led to believe that they would. I was so releaved. And yes... just like El-Professor suggested... I stuck with this but did not become annoying about it. It was tough... trust me... especially reading all these posts about the conspiracies/breakdowns/unprofessionalism/etc. All bull********** in my book... to me it sounds like US soccer had a pretty good grip on what was going to happen and handled it in the time span they anticipated. Technical difficulties, such as broken faxes (whether true or false - no one knows for sure), can never be anticipated. This stuff happens.... I KNOW!

As optimistic as I have been that we would know this week, I forgot in my calculations that US Soccer has to do some validating with FIFA in regards to the people applying. I hope that doesn't unduly delay the process.
The other aspect of this that points to the swing in emotions on this topic...I don't know if the USSF actually says they will notify us by the 4th. They only say they will put out to the general public tickets that aren't sold yet. .......Although I think Amy has told us all to calm down (indirectly at least) and so that is the happy place I am trying to go to. ;-)

As long as we find out by the 13th or so (leaving enough time to submit applications thru FIFA if we don't get them) I can't complain too much. Still would be nice to find out already, though.

Yeah we definitely need to know before the fifteenth, or else those of us that werent successful through USSf can still apply. I've been a nervous wreck for fifteen days now.......

I was told in an email from USSF (and as it says in their FAQs) we'll have an answer by the 5th.
That means you'll either know by friday afternoon or you can chill out until Tuesday, since I'm sure they aren't working over the holiday weekend. Since the 5th is next Thursday, I'm sure folks will know by next Wednesday. At any rate there will be plenty of time to put in for the FIFA lottery.

Well, unfortunately, I just reread their FAQs and could not find any mention that we would receive an answer by the 5th or any other specific date. Then again, I did find this gem:
7. Will U.S. Soccer be prepared for the anticipated number of orders to be received via fax?
Yes. Special accommodations have been made by U.S. Soccer in preparation to receive the large number of anticipated ticket orders via fax.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly hope that the info that they gave you is correct and we will know by 1/5. That said, I'm not exactly holding my breath . . .

Okay, maybe I was elaborating a bit on the FAQs, but I got a definitive email that answers would be coming by the 5th. At any rate, the USSF has to put the tickets that haven't been bought up for sale to the general public on the 5th, so it follows that the presale would be complete by then, to include notifying folks whether they got tickets or were on the waitlist.
