Has anyone else realized that Dish Network doesn't show anymore soccer??? I switched to Dish Network last year from Directv, for the sole purpose of watching all soccer. Dish for years has been offering all national and international soccer up until 2002. It seems, now, that Dish Network has made a conscious effort not to offer anymore soccer. There has not been one US national team game offered and many international games, that are being offered on my cable system and Directv. This infuriates me. They offer games to get you to sign up and then once they get you, there is no more soccer. Shame on them!!!!

That's why I will be dumping Dish this may when my 1-year contract runs out.

Are you talking about PPV options or their channel line-up?

I had not noticed any decline in their soccer coverage to be honest. I still get Fox Sports World, which for all practical purposes is "The Soccer Channel" (at least as far as I'm concerned) on Dish.

But, I'll be dropping them for entirely different reasons:

a) Don't provided local channels here in Baltimore (DirecTV does)
b) Didn't win a piece of the NFL Sunday Ticket package

Later!

I seem to remember reading somewhere that US Soccer had gone to an exclusive arrangement with DirecTV for PPV and such things when the last contracts were renewed -- early 2002 or sometime thereabouts.

Perhaps it had to do with the SEM partnership for soccer broadcasting or something along those lines.

I think you get Univision and Galavision on DISH. They show soccer. So does Fox Sports World.

There's tons of soccer on DISH. Just because they don't show the one game you want, it doesn't mean they don't show "anymore" soccer.

Oh, you just wanted to vent. Sorry.

I recently got DIRECTV and I'm happy with it, but DishNet has the same channels. I read that the only reason Sentana didn't get the Canada game on Dish was a lack of time to get the contract together. The bonus to DishNet is the extra international channels that you can get.

I only got DIRECTV because they offered a good deal and because I didn't need a two satelitte dish to get FSW. I didn't feel like shelling out the extra cash for a two satellite dish when I can get one for free and still get FSW. I know the ShootOut wasn't great on Dish last year, but it could be entirely different this year. Both systems are better than Comcast as far as I'm concerned.

I started this other thread on the same topic before I saw this post... http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=27956

This other thread has email and phone information for contacting Dish and letting them know your frustration.

I don't think they need any help. They are turning away soccer fans all on their own. Looking at SoccerTV.com, the following events are listed as PPV on Direct TV only:

Netherlands v. Argentina
USA v. Canada
England vs Australia
England vs Yugoslavia

There isn't a single listing for a DISH only game.

There's lots of soccer on Dish Network.

Sure there's lots of soccer on Dish...but there's about 50% more on DirecTV.

3 years ago, it was exactly the opposite way around.

I've had DirecTV for about five years. I don't recall Dish Network having 50% more soccer. Both were about the same. I think Dish Network added FSW about three months before DirecTV did. And I know DirecTV has had the MLS Shootout since it stared during the '97 season. That's why I bought it in the first place.

If you follow European football on PPV...then
this guy is right...

Dish didnt show the FA Cup matches that were
broadcast on PPV cable... im not sure about
Direct TV... They have missed out on numerous
friendly internationals that have been on Direct TV
and digital cable PPV. Dish used to cater to the
niche market with all of their international
channels and European PPV football... but it has
declined. On another DBS board it was mentioned
Dish had been tooling with their bandwith so the
amount of PPV channels declined... this I dont
know..

I hope the pendulum swings back to dish...

I have been very happy w/ Dish. Especially the PVR. If you don't have this or Tivo, you are missing out on tons. When we are away from home my 3 year old keeps telling me "I want to see it again." It reminds me of my football films watching days when someone or myself would say "Run that back Coach." The PVR is the best thing going.

I have no problem w/ the amount of soccer shown on Dish. FSW shows all the soccer I want to see. Although I do want to see the US vs. Canada on Saturday. Not sure I would pay $20 to see it. I am currently trying to find a local pub that will be showing it.

IIRC, Dish didn't show any PPV of the FA cup until the later rounds. I assumed that was because FSW was showing games in the earlier rounds. And, I think they are showing more of those games this year than last year. At least, I recall watching more of the FA cup games this year than last.

I know that the final, two semi-finals and a couple of the qtr. finals were shown on Dish last year. I was out of town on business and missed all of those. But, I do recall they were on. I even recall starting a thread in B&M requesting info if Dish was offering the same package this year (b/c I was out of town on business at the time). I just think that the package for the final few rounds is still in the works.

I agree. For my personal needs Dish has been more than fine. I switched from Directv to Dish a few years ago because Directv didnt have FSW. I watched FSW ESPANOL for a few months before Dish finally got FSW. I really have no desire to see any of the International games or the MLS so maybe that is where other people are finding fault with Dish. I am a huge EPL fan and sometimes I think we see more games here in the states than in England.

...i had DISH for about 2 1/2 to 3 years. I switched to DIRECTTV for THREE reasons:

a. the MLS package on Dish only had saturdays, vs DirectTV had midweek and Sunday matches as well

b. DISH did not carry the U-21 qualifying (from SC), Direct did,

c. US vs Canada, DIRECTV only...

three strikes they were OUT

Soflametro is a fool. Did you not read my post or are you illiterate as well? My bet, he is both. I have been called many things, but never a Directv employee, which gave me a chuckle. In fact, I hate Directv as well. That is why I switched over to Dish Network in the 1st place. Or did you not see that in my original post. The point of my post was to let you all know that Dish Network is not offering the soccer (especially the US team) the same way they have in the past and to let them know how you feel. Of course, they still show soccer (Fox, Telemundo, Univision), but those networks are on cable and Directv, as well. Also, I would rather not watch soccer in spanish nor do I want to limit my soccer programming to that of Fox. Dish use to show it all, now they hardly show any. Before Soflametro shoots off his mouth, maybe he should learn how to read first and know what he is talking about or has that florida sun seeped into your brain?
