So, who's going to win the golden boot this summer?

Ronaldinho? Shevechenko? Rooney? Van Nistelrooy? Totti?

...Donovan?

I'd put my money on Adriano

Ronaldinho is leading the pack and we all know that something terrible has to happen in order for him not to receive the award.
But pay attention to Ronaldo (Real Madrid), the World Cup is a very special and meaningfull moment for him, he plays for fun while he awaits for the world cup. He is one player that might surprise everyone...he has a great heart and he is destined to suceed.

Destined to succeed? He won the award already in 2002. He's not so much a "suprise" to keep an eye on, but more of a veteran that we just assume will score at least 5.

Luca Toni, Rooney, or Klose
Please, do you really believe that Luca Toni will perform well in a World Cup? He is a great attacker but the World Cup is a different scenario. I don't believe he has the profile of a player that will succeed in a World Cup...after Baggio, Italy has not had any excelent offensive individual.
Rooney will certainly be a good player, like most british players, his motivation and determination to succeed may make him stand out or get him suspended.
Klose...what can I say? Doe not come "klose".... :)

I think Shevechenko may get the golden boot, even though Ukraine isn't likely to get further than the quarters. The guy is a goal scoring machine. I predict 6 goals in 5 appearances, including 2 braces.

What are you talking about? Vieri was one of the most clutch goal scorers Italy has ever had. Italy went out early in 2002 yet he still managed 4 goals. Will Toni be a standout? YES....with the likes of Pirlo/Totti feeding him and him playing against some of the best defensive players in the world (serie A) i don't see why not....put too much focus on Toni and Cassano/Gilardino burn you, put too much focus on them and Totti burns u...choose your poison.

Vieri is a good player. But not better than the spaniard Morientes.
Vieri's best years was alongside Ronaldo, because the defense would pay too much attention on Ronaldo and Vieri would have more space to work. What has Vieri won since Ronaldo left? He is actually a backup forward right now.
Italy is known for its defenders, unfortunatelly, defense is all what they will be able to play on this "very offensive" WC06.
Pirlo will not hold the pressure, he is hardly making the Milan's starting line up.
The WC is a different scenario... Pirlo cannot create his own shoots and passes, he needs space and that's going to be extremely difficult to obtain on a world cup level match.

I like him, very determined player but hardly a player that won't be playing the semi and finals will be granted the Golden Boot. We may look in history and I believe that has never happened. His only chances of getting the award is playing his best ever and hoping Ukraine gets at least to the semis.

thats why vieri scored 24 goals in 24 games in for atletico madrid in 98 without ronaldo, and 25 goals in 24 games in 2003,,,seems to me vieri's best seasons were without ronaldo, pirlo hardly not making the milan starting line up, no i think you purely hate italians, and robinho is turning into a flop, thats why real are getting cassano in january

Shevechenko will not win the golden boot. Drogba has a better shot.

Can I get a hit of some of that funky stuff you're smoking, man? Please, please, please, pretty please? Sheva might not win the golden boot, but Drogba isn't even half of the striker that Sheva is.

Well, please, let's talk about Pirlo after the World Cup ok?
I don't hate italians..please.. It's just that the italians do not want to accept the fact that the WC02 team was much better than this WC06 team is because they are affraid to accept that maybe they won't win easy games again.
Robinho is not a flop, please, thats is not why he is playing at Real Madrid, he may not be playing at a level that everyone expected, but neither did Ronaldinho when he first got to Paris St. Germain. Robinho has a magical ball controll, now, learning the european structure, positioning and tactics he may become an even better player than Ronaldinho...but so do Messi, Rooney, Kaka and a lot of youngsters.
Cassano is definatelly a more efficient player than Robinho, he learned to play against italians defenders, he has to be tough to succeed, but Robinho has chances of being the world's best player in a near future.

I think van Nistelrooij has a shot. Holland should make it far into the tournament, if not to the final -- so he'll have as many games as anyone, and his strike-rate is phenomenal. Plus, he's never been to the WC before, and probably won't again (he's 29 I think), so he'll have something to prove.

I don't know why, but I have a feeling about the Orange these days

Drogba has the better team behind him and should have more opportunities to score. It's nothing to be with ability, which I agree with you on.

The Netherlands? In the finals? Really?

They have about as good as shot as Spain, which equals to about as good a shot as Ghana.

Drogba, most definately doesn't have a better team behind him, at least in the center and the attacking 3rd. The reason why Sheva will not win the Golden Boot, is because no side will be stupid enough to leave him lightly marked for any period of time.
