When will a none-European or S. American team win FIFA World Club Championship?

Also, will you consider that team 'world's champion'?

Remember, that team will need beat both UEFA CL's winner and Copa Libertadores's winner in order to win (unless one of the bye team failed to advance to the Championship match).

I can bet it will be an African team... Mexico now is investing really hard in its clubs, with players from Argentina and Brazil, but I really think Africa will surprises the world someday... specially if the europeans keep this "we don't give a sh... to this tournament" thinking, and if the best south american players remains going to Europe every year...

I don't know about winning, but I expect an outsider to reach the final by 2011 (probably a Mexican team.)

Next year, when 2 Mexican teams make it:
Amèrica (Concacaf Champions Cup)
Tigres (Copa Libertadores)

^ They've already stated the Copa Libertadores representative must be from CONMEBOL.

I think a Mexican team too. They already beat top South American sides.

If that's true, then why invite Mexican teams?
Is it simply for the money available from the Mexican TV markets?

Mexican teams have participated for several years in Copa Libertadores, and they have proven to be competitive against South American teams. One year a Mexican club actually made the final, and lost in penalties. I think a Mexican club can win this cup. It probably would be easier than a Mexican club winning Libertadores, since there are less matches involved.

But of course, first they'd have to win CONCACAF.

A Saudi team will be closest to achieving it.
Al-Ittihad almost went through to the final without 5 starters.

I think it will be at least 5 years or something. Money talks. And as long as FIFA waves those nice prizes, I think it will open the eyes of the European teams. The South American teams have always looked at the old Toyota Cup with much pride and so they will always take the tournament seriously.

I think money is an important factor too. Most of the African teams can't retain their national players or lure ones in their prime. The exceptions are the Arab ones in Africa and Asia...who have tons of money. I mean, Kallon for al-Ittihad was always a very good player in Europe and he's still young. The J-leauge and K-league are also getting much better too. I think as these leagues mature, they will be able to compete. I think it would be very good for the tournament if a Japanese made it next year just so I can actually see some full stadiums.

I've really been impressed with al-Ittihad in this tournament. To be honest, outside of the European and South American contintental competitions, I think that the Asian are definitely up there. I mean, the competition is fierce there and it's amazing to me that al-Ittihad won the Asian Champions League 2 years in a row. The teams in Mexico also have looked very impressive. They always get really far in Libertadores and Sudamericana.

We'll see though, but as of right now, I still think we have a ways before a team outside of Europe or South America/Mexico wins it.

The Mexicans will win every single cup that futbol has to offer. If and when a mexican club does participate, they will have to play on the European side of the bracket and you know what that means. That Mexicans can beat any european side at least 3-0!!

Well, they're the only country in CONCACAF to win a FIFA championship.

co-sign.

If Europeans keep this "I don't give a ********" attitude teams from Asia and Africa are going to want to beat them the same way those South American teams have beaten them.
