Because its the FIFO method. (First In First Out)

Right, but I don't think the numbers correspond to the number of applicants. I think they generally fall into a pattern, but beyond that is just speculation. I, for one, find it really hard to believe they have received 8000 applications, and that they have processed through that many applications (even if it is just to assign a confirmation number) that quickly.

Somebody mentioned above that the number refers to the number of tickets requested. So if you order six total tickets, your number might be 6050, but the next order would be number 6056.

But I think this is too much work for USSF to do right now. THey probably are not checking anything, except for a general review of the application to make sure that it is complete (and they may not even be doing that). They probably are also checking to make sure the passcode is valid, and cross-referencing the e-mail with the e-mail they have in their database. That, in and of itself, will take a while to do on each application.

Overall, as I stated earlier, I think the numbers are in general order, but are probably not consecutively given, but random within certain ranges, probably depending on which employee is processing them at the time.

The actual ranking is most likely done internally, and will happen later.

The merits on each application will not be reviewed until much later.

Do you really think that there are going to be over 3,000 American fans at each match next summer?

I, for one, would be shocked if that many people show up.
3,000 Screaming, yelling, Sam's Armyish fans>

nowhere even close.

3,000+ Americans going to Europe for Holiday and taking in a game or two? Hell yes. Let's say despite the US's success in 2002, if this was being held in Sputh Africa there wouldn't be any problems re the ticket lottery

Now I don't know how savy the general fan is, knowing that they needed to get their tickets in the first day for a good shot at getting them, but I have talked to a large number of people who have not seen a single USMNT game, but were planning on going to the WC.

I still believe that average Joe is not in on US Soccer's allocation. Won't be on the mailing list or won't have rushed to get their fax in like we did. Average person won't even know the US Soccer allocation exists. They are FIFA lottery people. To me the US Soccer allocation is like a private fan club ticket pre-sales. We are Dave Matthews Band's Warehouse or Pearl Jam's Ten Club. FIFA is Ticketmaster.

On another note, I see you are from Des Moines. You are the only other person I know that is going.

Well, I've always wanted to go to Sputh Africa! ;)

So, what do we do if these numbers are in the sequential order that they will fill ticket requests and we see that people like me (9:42 UPS) are getting confirmation numbers (I don't even have one yet) that are after the numbers received by folks on the 9:43 FedEx (and later)?

I know there are many in the same boat as me and we won't be very happy if we're sitting on our couches in June while people who had their applications arrive later than ours are at the stadiums.

But, whatta we do?

Many of us tried to get TSTs through FIFA (although most seem to have failed). I got my TST-5 for Korea through FIFA because I didn't want to wait for the USSF.

Hopefully the fact that some of the "fan club" folks got FIFA tickets at first will make our odds even better.

Just got my email -- its in the 8500s.

Anyone know (or can speculate) on how long it will be before we have some idea about whether we are getting tix or are on the waiting list?

I think you really underestimate the organized scalping element involved in this.

I believe we will know by early January. (It may be earlier, as they process the tickets...) They open any remaining tickets to the public on January 5th, so they have to have everything done by then, at the latest.

I believe the proper term is "misunderestimate"! ;)

NICE! I like this line of thinking... you and I are in the same boat.

Care sharing your plans? I will be in the cities the US plays in on Jun-17 and Jun-22, but enjoying the sights on the off days. Thankfully, it is my understanding that FIFA has approved large screen TV broadcasts of games in larger public places in various cities through Germany.

Might have to hoist a stein of Heffe-Weissen with you, mate! :D
Sure. Me and NattyBo (and possibly a third person from the Barra, she's trying to get in on it late) plan is to fly into London on May 30 then spend a couple days there touring some premiership grounds and new Wembley and then take a ferry to Holland on June 1 where we'll spend a week based out of Amsterdam taking occasional day trips (and sometimes just tripping all day :D) then head to Berlin on the 8th as the tournament gets going, spend a week there also taking day trips and going to the Gelsenkirchen match (regardless of if we get tickets). Then another week down in Munich taking the train out to Kaiserslautern and Nuremburg. Then we fly home from Munich after the last group match.

We're staying in hostels everywhere so it'll pretty much be the typical early-20s backpacking around Europe experience only you know, with the World Cup compounding the awesomeness.

The way I looked at it, we had to go and do it this year because by 2010 I could possibly have a serious job and/or a family which wouldn't let me just scoot off to Europe (or Africa in that case) for 3 weeks without a single care in the world aside from the day-to-day status of my liver.

God I can't wait.

You'll recognize me. I'll be the one with a red "America, ******** Yeah" (http://www.foulmouthshirts.com/n-Shirts/america-********-yeah-T-shirt.htm) shirt. :D (replace the asterisks in the link with the actual word)

As a member of both Warehouse and Ten I am very aware of organized scalping.

I put up a simple poll to see how many people were able to get a fax through on Monday.

If you have time, vote, and it may give a hint as to the number of faxes that actually arrived.
