NBlue is spot on. The people at USSF don't really seem to be fans judging by how the WC ticket distribution was (and continues to be) handled. They just "work there" and don't really feel anything too deep about the game one way or the other.
Are you kidding? I'd bet money that all of the people who work at USSF are soccer fans.

Yes, but how big of fans are they? Can the name Cle Kooiman's zodiac sign? Do they know Michael Mason's father's military unit? Do they know the pain of not knowing whether you have tickets to one of the biggest sporting events of their lives? I think not.
Maybe if we knew their salaries, that would tell us.

lol yeah , not knowing if I have tickets or not is just killing me . I've been waiting for this moment for a loooong time , and this will be my first world cup ( if i get the ticks ) , and just knowing if I have them would make me happy for the next six months :D

As to my questions to the representative in the ticket office at US Soccer. I was probing her with questions about the number of applications received. "Were more applications received than tickets? (she could not say for sure because she did not know how may tickets per app were requested)" "When would we know by, since if denied I would apply for the FIFA single game tickets (must be done by Jan 15th).(Definately after Jan 1, but could not promise by the 15th)" She asked me when my application arrived. I told her 2:04 pm by S. Polk. She asked what Day? I said Tuesday Dec. 13th. She said, "oh I think you will be fine, but don't hold me too it."
Nothing solid but I have to say it made me feel a bit better because honestly I feared when FedEX botched my 10 am delivery I was hosed. I still think my chances are 50/50 at best but perhaps there is hope after all.

If this is what you meant then I can agree with you.

It would appear that the only significant numbers are the last 3 digits. I'm wondering if any two people got identical last three digits.
IE: the counter is 1, 2, 3...901, 902
codes 8 = fedex, 6 = fax, 10 = certified mail, etc.

Being a fan and being efficient at expeditiously handling something like this are two very different things. Based on the typical BS impression of how well they've done, I'm inclined to think they are fans - otherwise they'd have some office admin pros in there getting this whole thing squared away. ;) :D
Actually, except for the fax lines being permanently busy on Monday, I don't really have any evidence that this has been handled poorly at all. Just because a bunch of people on an internet bulletin board have decided to pathologically try to devine the meaning of confirmation numbers, fax and fedex arrival times, etc. doesn't necessarily mean things are all screwed up.

seriously, you guys are all focking idiots. I submitted two different applications - where the applicants names were no where near each other in the alphabet. Both applications were submitted in the same ups mailer and the confirmation numbers for the different applications are over 400 numbers apart.
Except for the names, payment info, addresses, email addys and passwords, the applications were completely identical - and again, they were in the same package.
The numbers are random. Don't let Palermo freak you out.

your comments fly in the face of all the other evidence to the contrary. Based on the info shared here and on yanksingermany there is definately a pattern. If you understood it properly you would see Palermo is not freaking anyone out but rather is reassuring them.

Yeah definitely , and I'm really hoping those of us that sent them via overnight fedex , can get tickets as well :)

Right... which is why they are ordered in the time/way they were received... ;)

Perhaps I should have mentioned that of the two applications that were mailed in the same UPS envelope, 1 had a confirmation number that was 8xxx and the other had a number that was 9xxx. bunk

Thanks. That would put them among the numbers received with UPS and Fedex envelopes, and ordered by last name. Have you been reading all the threads?

yes, it doesn't seem odd to you that the numbers are over 400 apart even though they were in the same envelope? do you really think 400 applications (or 400 tickets) were processed in between the two apps?

What are the first letters of the contact names on the two applications?

No, it doesnt, if you look at the distribution of numbers and names from the enveloped applications.
