OK--I called Amy at US Soccer, and she was gracious to answer a couple of questions for me.
She claimed the numbers were random, but when pressed on the issue (because I told her they definitely fall into patterns), she admitted that a computer program tells them what number to apply to each order, and she has no idea how the computer program generates the numbers.
So if there are patterns in the numbers, it is from whoever developed the program to spit out the numbers. THe folks at US Soccer are not aware of how this is done.
(She also told me that everyone on Bigsoccer that is fretting over this is crazy. And she was pretty emphatic about the use of the term "crazy".)
Also, I asked if she had any idea how many orders were received, and she said that she had absolutely no idea. What they are doing right now is trying to cull out the duplicates. She said she received a large number of duplicates, and they were doing their best to eliminate them (not both orders, but just the second of the duplicates).
She said that everyone who is getting tickets will know by January 6th.

It's been a bit re-assuring that I haven't seen any numbers in the 10### range yet. Just keep our fingers crossed.

My confirmation number is #100**. My fax went through Tuesday at about 10:30 am.

yea...but it's not 17234 or something like that....
There appears to be a large gap between your number #100** and my number #200**

Finally, someone tells us something useful. Thank you.

Meaning Crazy to worry about ticket availability,
or just Crazy in general?

I've only been through this thread quickly, so I'm not up on your theories.
My FedEx from Europe arrived Thursday morning at US soccer. Got my email today, #30XXX. I ordered tickets from group thru the final, the second most expensive ones (with the most expensive ones for Italy match).
Seems to me some people whose order arrived Tuesday had 10XXX codes, those on Wed. 20XXX codes, and now with on Thursday, 30XXX.
But again, I haven't read thru properly. Maybe someone can offer their theory now that they have my Thursday data.
Anyway, I guess it's near impossible I score at this point...

Has anyone been issued a confirmation number with 666 in it? 'Cause I would really worry about that one.

. . . . .

I also talked to Amy this week and she was quite nice. However, her opinion of our "fretting" is emblematic of the problems at USSF. They fail to take into take into account that many of us -- hundreds, if not thousand -- care very deeply about US Soccer. We have planned with our wives (or husbands), children, parents, friends and others to take several weeks out of our lives and away from work or school to go to Germany next year. We do not make this decision idly or without great thought and planning. Moreover, the considerations of housing and travel also make this a great financial committment. Accordingly, it is beyond me why those at USSF fail to understand how important it is to many of us that we are able to obtain tickets to this event that we care so deeply about and have sacrificed so much to attempt to attend.
We are not "fretting" about a hangnail or complaining about some minor squabble; rather, we are frustrated and concerned over something that means a great deal to us and over which we have no control.
Unfortunately, clearly, they haven't a clue.

She specifically used the term "Crazy" when I told her how people had analyzed the number distribution and were able to see the patterns.

NBlue is spot on. The people at USSF don't really seem to be fans judging by how the WC ticket distribution was (and continues to be) handled. They just "work there" and don't really feel anything too deep about the game one way or the other.

My FEDEX was received on 12/13/05 at 2:04 pm by S. Polk....FedEx was unable to fulfill my "guaranteed" 10:30 am delivery from CA, but that is another issue.
What is driving me "crazy" is that others have received confirmation # on packages/faxes that arrived later.
So I emailed US SOCCER...no response.
So I called US SOCCER and talked to someone that seemed knowledgeable about the situation. She was unable to get me a confirmation # but said. actually implied that if you got your application in on Tues Dec 13th that you would get tickets...again she implied this....take that info as you will.
I also explained that I needed to know WHEN we would know if we were allocated tickets since the FIFA single match ordering window closes Jan 15th. She could not give me a time but said "definitely not by Jan 1...and could not say for sure by the 15th"....I saw Jan 6th floating around. That would be acceptable.
Anyway, I would feel a lot better with a confirmation #. I think I am going a bit crazy....

Yeah, I'm driving my friends & coworkers crazy too. They just cannot see why I'm so obsessed in December about something that's "not happening until June."
