The FIFA web site says that each qualified federation gets 8% of the total tickets for their games. Now that we know the venues, here are the number of people we can expect in the US end.

Game .......Stadium Total...8% Available....Minus 1500 Big Wigs and Sponsers
Chexico............43920...............3514.............3014
Italy................37084...............2967.............2467
Ghana..............32341...............2587.............2087
Rd 16 Winner.....36392...............2911.............2411
Rd 16 2nd Place..50276..............4022.............3522

I don't know how many people are on the USSoccerFan.com list, but I doubt that there will be any left for the public sale.

Now let's hope Fed Ex puts my application on the top of the pile tomorrow morning!

What I can't figure out is why they don't just allocate something like 40% of total stadium capacity to each fed involved, and sell the other 20% to the general public.

I mean, why would anyone but Americans and Czechs want to watch our first game?

I'm hoping that my glimmering yellow DHL package will catch their eye.... they'll be mesmerized and pick it up out of the sea of fedex envelopes.

All I'm asking for is 3 tickets for each of the group phase matches. My FedEx envelope looked perfect as I dropped it off this morning. I just hope it gets there intcact and towards the top. Crossing my fingers here good luck to all of you as well.

What!?! Any true fan would catch a red-eye flight to Chicago and be sitting on the steps outside of SoccerHouse with their application in hand when the staff shows up in the morning.

While I don't doubt that your numbers are probably correct, it makes absoluetly no sense that a federation would only get 8%. Between us and the Czechs, we're getting less than 20% of the tickets to our own match! What's going on? Are the concession workers required to have a ticket too?

This is absurd. I'll tell you what, FIFA: I'll forego getting tickets for the Croatia-Japan game if you can ensure I get tix for the two US games I want to attend.

Because one of the benefits of hosting a World Cup is that your citizens get to attend the games.

exactly. Remember all those non-USMNT matches you saw here during WC94? The Germans get that too.

Then of course, there are the 300k sponsors and various hanger-ons that all get a spot.

Then they need to make like the US...

...AND BUILD BIGGER STADIUMS.

37,000?

What are we supposed to hold in that? Texas High School Football?

I have very little hope of getting USA tickets, but then I am a pessimist by nature (lots of upside potential)

Here it is about six months to the start of the 2006 World Cup and I find my mind wandering to thoughts of South Africa in 2010. Not long ago I thought that the long, expensive flight to South Africa from Europe, the lack of enough hotels, the high crime rate and the less then well developed transportation infastructure would all contribute to my decision not to go. After today's experience with the ticket offering through the USSF and the uncertainty about getting in the stadium with a scalped ticket because of the potential for names and passport numbers being checked by security at the stadium gate, my thinking has flipped 180 degrees. I am beginning to think that all the previously mentioned reasons not to attend the World Cup in South Africa are looking like excellant reasons to attend. At least all the negative aspects of South Africa will keep lots of fans from buying tickets so that I can buy them without so much stress and uncertainty.

I agree that it's absurd, but this is where I found it.
FIFA Ticket web site (http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/tickets/overview.html)
Number 12 at the bottom had the percentage.

BTW, Germany and Brazil get the most tickets from the federation because they are in the biggest stadiums throughout the tournament.

You are absolutely correct. 8% of the tickets allocated to the Federations.

In response to the person who was questioning your numbers, remember, those are tickets just "handed" over to US Soccer. Thousands, Americans and non, have applied via the FIFA ticket windows already, so these are really truly the "last gasp" tickets.

does anyone know how many yanks went to Japorea? Did the USSF do the pre-sale in 02 also? If so did the tix sell out during the pre-sale?

You're not allowed to hand it in.

A true fan would do that and have a FedEx/UPS uniform handy

I've read all these stories in the Uk papers about how the English fed gets first call on any tickets that were allocated to the other nations in their group that aren't sold by those nation's federation. I hope somebody at USSF is looking into this. I know Italy and the Czechs are almost certainly going to sell out but I think we have some reason to hope about the Ghana match.
