Before taking it bitch style, you can still apply at the fifa site online for the same us games. The only benefit of buying from US Soccer is the bigger likelihood of sitting with us fans, although if they won't group sam's army together, i doubt they will group anyone else. The other benefit is only having to compete with US Soccer members for tix. However, with the way that they have botched this, it might even be easier to buy them at fifaworldcup.com
Don't really care where my seats are, I'll move around to stand with the largest gathering of US fans in the stadium.
I'm guessing you can get tickets for non-US games this way too?? I'm thinking of going to the Mexico-Angola game.
I figure I'll apply both thru FIFA and the USSF. If both of them come thru I'm sure I'll be able to find a US fan to take the extra tickets off my hands for face value.

just to warn you, they are printing people's names and passport numbers on the tix to prevent scalping. What you can do though is return the tickets for a refund, minus a service fee.

PRINTING
names, yes.
Passport numbers, no.
though, the magnetic strip will contain other information (as you suggested).
Question is will they check you for name - DOUBTFUL!

There will be spot checks, likely based on suspcion, they can't check eveyone and expect to start the match on time.
I got a fax in at 1:35 Monday, it went through, have fax conifrmation, but no confirmation email from USSoccer yet. Anyone else in this boat?

I would apply even late. There may be a large group of applications that are messed up and being on the waitlist might be ok.
I think that lots of people may have tried to maximize their chances of getting a ticket to at least one game by putting in for all 3 opening games and then other rounds. If they (me) actually get them all, people will then likely make hard choices based on jobs, family, money, etc.
Sticking around in Germany for 2+ weeks at the highest prices possible is going to discourage folks.

I agree. Lots of people (including myself) probably figured, why not apply if you can always withdraw or sell the tickets. The reality of 2-3 weeks away from work, etc is not only extremely costly but for some people unfortunately, impossible.
Does anyone know if it is possible for people to sell tickets they will not be using by passing on the names of the new purchases to FIFA/USSF before a deadline? Obviously with some excuse like of course (such as broken back, mourning death of dog, etc).

You think they will confiscate the tickets if you don't have ID (or are pretending you forgot it cause it doesn't match up)? I have a hard time imagining they would take someone's tickets in the case they actually did forget their ID.
If not then it would likely be possible to try entering again or trying another entrance.
And do you think they accept any form of ID at the gates or just passports?
