Westfalenstadium is quite easy to reach, easier then Dortmund-Wickede , the Airport :)
If you come per train, just get into the Sub towards Westfalenhallen/Westfalenstadion (Or now Signal-Iduna-Park)
from the Airport its not that easy, cause you need to find the right bus :)

Best bet is to check http://www.hrs.com. Use "Westfalenstadion" as your destination (plus date, how many beds etc.) and everything else will do the website for you. You can even book online with 100% money back guarentee up to 48h before the journey IIRC).

When we slept in Dortmund we were in a kind of a youth hostel, but for sportsmen, it was cheap and relatively close to the Stadium

I used to do that trip all the time. When I first started to go up to Westfalen to see BVB regularly (I lived down in Bavaria), I would spend the night with a friend in Duesseldorf. That was before I got a "sometimes girlfriend" closer to the area! LOL!!!
If you're driving, it's a quick trip. Just go to Dortmund very early to get a good parking spot. There's always something to do in the area until the match. And go into the city on the U-Bahn after the matches to let the cars get out of the area. Then take the U-Bahn back to your car and go back to Duesseldorf. Worked great for me!! :)

Thnaks. I think I will get the taxi to Dortmund from Dusseldorf - am flying in on the day of the game. The hotel appears to be close to the stadium.

Really no need for a taxi. The train is faster and way cheaper. Plus you can use the (one-day) ticket after the match to get to the hotel or go drinking.

Exactly! I can't imagine what a taxi from Duesseldorf to Dortmund would cost! :)

Save the taxi money and upgrade your hotel room. ;-)

Or get a first class ticket on the train! :) See if there's an ICE that runs that way. First-Class on the ICE is NICE!
On the regular local trains, it really doesn't make a difference.

Can't wait to go now! Upgrade? I get the impression I was lucky to get the room I have.
