The Most Difficult For Portugal Is To Pass The Easy Group After That We Will Win Those Big Games Because We Usually Do Good Against Big Teams.

Forca Portugal.

Interesting how England, the US and Mexico are in the lead. Could it be that's because those are the countries where most of the posters are from? Biased? No...never!

This raises a good point. I have always said that in many cases the group stage is the hardest part of the World Cup. It's almost like a continuation of qualification - one or 2 steps wrong and you're gone like Argentina and France in 2002. I'm not saying the other rounds are easy but at least you can take it one game at a time. You win you advance. It's not like in the group stage where mathematics and/or goal difference can send you home or getting you to advance. I remember thinking when England and the US got to the quarterfinals in 2002, I thought it's only ONE more game and both sides could have been in the finals. I was in a bar in New York where the buzz was an England-US final was in the making, which of course would have been nice for England! And if you look at both those quarterfinals that could have happened. In other words, one game at a time may be easier than group points.

It's obviously going to be same story, Brazil will win. But I'd really want an underdog team to win

True.

As for my choice, may be Argentina or Italy or Brazil or Holland and England. but we should expect surprises.

right now:

1-Brazil 558 20.14%
2-USA 469 16.93%
3-Mexico 419 15.13%
4-Holland 219 7.91%
5-England 197 7.11%
6-Argentina 164 5.92%
7-Germany 140 5.05%
8-Other (who?) 132 4.77%
9-Italy 127 4.58%
10-Portugal 118 4.26%
11-Spain 91 3.29%
12-Czech Republic 58 2.09%
13-France 47 1.70%
14-Sweden 31 1.12%
Oh man, oh man, oh man, I wish the bookies were making odds based on these numbers.
Historically, teams with strong homefield connections fare a little better than they would otherwise. I think Holland as a real chance, Czech Rep could make a nice run, England is very strong. But the team getting overlooked by a lot of folks right now is Italy. Lower the expectations on them, give the team a rallying point around disrespect, and they're a very dangerous side.
The favorite has gotta be Brazil, but where's the fun in picking them. Will be at one of their group games, because that is fun. The US is a solid team, but doesn't have the fire-power to score their way out of trouble. If this poll is correct, and the US ends up in the final, it's one low-scoring cup. :(

should say final four teams, not final, as england is ahead of US in the poll now...

There is no no no no no no NO way on god's green earth that England wins the next world cup.......I mean really
USA wont even get out of the group stage, the US fans get carried away with their winning streak or whatever.......listen, it obvious that their gonna keep winning if their playing trinidad, jamaica, st.vincent and guyana all the time..........Neither the US or england can beat BRAZIL, ARGENTINA, ITALY, PORTUGAL, SPAIN, OR GERMANY!!!!!

France will win because the have many good players but few are counting on them since they had such problems in Qualifying. In many ways, they are in a similar situation like Brazil was in 2002.

Do you think there could be some kind of home field advantage in tournaments like this?
Yeah, just look down the list of winners and where the tournaments were held. Also, Brazil is the only country to have won the tournament outside it's own continent 'Sweden'58 Korea/Japan'02. Speaking of which, look how well the home nations did in the last World Cup.
