he could be the Myshkin of our times - then again, a Slovak victory would NOT be totally unexpected. I would venture to guess that Slovakia would have the sieve goalie going into this tournament, not Russia.

i wish he can be Myshkin.

Hasek left in the first for the Czechs...word is it's either a hamstring or groin injury. Vokoun finished the game (and I think he's a better player).

and didn't I hear a nasty rumor re: Patrik Elias? Is he hurt, too?

Veteran Nikolai Khabibulin of the Chicago Blackhawks, who backstopped Russia in 2002, is out with a sprained knee. His absence means Evgeni Nabokov of the San Jose Sharks and Ilya Bryzgalov of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks are the goaltenders this time.

As for Elias, if he got hurt, I didn't see it. He played. He picked up a penalty I know that. I didn't see him leave the game. He was a non-factor though.

As for Russia, bad news:

I tried to tell Moskva that the Russians are just too on/off. You never know which team is going to show up. That's why they won't medal, where as the US won't medal because we have shit team this year.

well now, I guess the Latvia highlights won't see prime time, right? And Latvia has all of 2.2 million people! Can you say Nagano?

i want to know why Nabby isn't playing.

I spoke to our hockey editor and he said that he believes Nabokov got in late from SJ (via the east coast with all our snow there were delays) and that the Russian coach decided to sit him this game.

dont worry everyone, this is Canada's Tournament. 7-2 against Italy (it was ITALY so it doesnt mean much), but i think Canada has proven they are the best in the world at this time.

Can't argue with that - an example of the principle of comparative national advantage. Or if you have frozen lemons, make iced lemonade!
Can I bet on it?
Don't worry - I'm p@@@sed at the 'Mericans, and since I've met one of the Latvian players, can't complain.

USA draws 3-3...good thing the Russians lost. That helps take some sting off of this.
