"It is bad that we do not know the U.S. team and have to play them in the first match," Bruckner told Czech daily Mlada Fronta Dnes.

Well, I can kind of understand why he wasn't familiar with the current American squad going into the World Cup. I think it would have been helpful to check out all of the potential teams that they would play. Either way, he better do his research. :)
That being said, the Czechs played Canada a few years back and beat us 5-1 in Teplice.
Hmmm.... maybe the Czechs will want to play us again? Maybe in Olomouc??? :D

Yes I was also thinking that Canada would be a good warm up team. Yallop coached in the USA for MLS and also worked with Rongen (who also coached the younger US national teams). So among the CONCACAF teams, Canada would be the closest to USA in terms of play. I was looking at the Lonely Planet book and Olomouc sounds like a really nice place. Some time, I'm going to grab the hubby and hop on a big bird and fly over to Europe and see some new places. Germany would be fun, maybe Gelsenkirchen in June ;) Now that is a dream on. I think half the world wants to see that one!

It wouldn't hurt to have Canada play the Czechs again. :) It will be interesting to see who the Czechs schedule for friendlies. I know they are playing Portugal on March 1st (I believe), but a part from that nothing has been announced.
Olomouc is usually over looked in terms of tourism. Although that can be said about any place in the Czech Republic with the exceptions of Karlovy Vary, Cesky Krumlov, Brno and Praha. Olomouc has a nice central part - and there are plenty of towns near Olomouc that are worth a visit.

Olomouc is nice city in Moravia. Canaddian Supporter lived there for few months and he likes the city. I was twice in Olomoc and Moravia. Very
nice area. Actually Baros come from Moravia as well.
I will watch the game in Genselkirchen USa-Czech.

I'm hoping to get the Czech games in England on TV, but it all depends on what the pubs show.
Too bad there isn't a Czech pub here in Leicester. :( There is a Czech house in London that was started in the 1930's (I think) for Czech ex-pats living in London. I heard it is a good place for Czech food and beer. :D

The ESPN group of networks will be showing all the games. We will be watch the Czech and USA games on the HD larger screen tv. I might have to put the beer in a cooler. The Czech v USA is at 12 noon, so it sounds like a big breakfast, snacks available during the game and nice food afterwards. That is, IF I am home ;)

"I don't know these teams, I've never watched the USA play, or Ghana either for that matter. So we're going to have to do our homework on those two, but whether they'll be easy or difficult, or quite difficult, I just don't know. That said, I'm not happy that our first game will be against America, but that's the way it is."

Not much new in that quote, but it is clear that he is not taking the Americans lightly - probably because he has never seen them play. :p

Yes I read this interview in czech news and reported about this at american board.
You are right the only disadvantage is that Czechs donīt know USA, how they play.
I think it will be much harder game for them than the game against Italy.
I donīt think USA is underestimated in the group. In this group is everything possible -even Ghana.
Anyway I see Czechs and USA as favorite in the group.
What do you think Cannadian Supporter?
I know about your love to USA:)..and about your big support for Czech team.
Will you come to Germany to support czech team?

I think the Czechs and Italy are the two favourites in the group. However, I wouldn't be too surprised to see the Americans knock off one of them.
No, I won't be going to Germany because I have to save my money. I'm going to Vienna on March 1st to watch Canada play Austria. :) Hopefully Canada will have another game in Europe before the World Cup as I would likely attend that one as well.

I just printed out the order form for USSoccer. I would love to see the Czech vs USA game. I think my odd of actually getting the tickets will be small. But we will see. I would love to see that Stadium. It looks fantastic. I guess I will have to cheer for both teams. I was hoping that they had the games set up life the women's world cup (doubleheaders with all teams in group sometimes). (By the way, I always cheered for Canada.) That would have been ideal because I could cheer for my team in each match and not have any inner conflicts. Well, we'll see what happens. If not in Germany, we'll have a great party here!
