Who are some prominant wealthy and/or celebrity soccer fans in the US, who are not currently investing in the MLS?

Robin Williams
Nomar Garciaparra

are two that come to mind. I am sure that people can think of many more.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has a stadium named after him in Graz, Austria.

It's too bad that LA Galaxy is ST. PHIL's favorite/home team.

Here is the plan - a conglomeration of these stars pays the franchise fee for a new team in the expansion city of St. Phil's and MLS' choice. St Phil gets the new club and the league agrees to build a SSS for the new team (using the franchise fee - maybe they split equity in the stadium).

The conglomeration (constellation) of stars (I am sure there are others - keep the names coming) acquires the rights to the LA Galaxy, MLS then tests Bayarn Munich's rights to the "FC Hollywood" label, by so re-naming the former Galaxy.

MLS goes out of its way to purchase pretty boy type players like David Ginola and signs a landmark contract with David Beckham guaranteeing that he will play one loan season at FC Hollywood with a player option for additional seasons - sometime before the age of 35 and at Man Utd's discretion. MLS gains an instant "glamor" team that raises the hackle of other MLS fans even more than the Galaxy currently do.

Maybe they could get Al Davis to chip in some money too (if he has any left after all of the lawsuits), so he once again has a football team in LA.

Excellent point. And he is extremely wealthy both from his film work and his real estate investing - it would also be great exposure for him in his quest to be governer. Unfortunately, he may be too shrewd an investor to spring for a soccer team.

On the other hand, maybe he and Sylvester Stallone (who perfected the genre of soccer film) could jointly purchase a team and put together a whiz-bang half time show to draw additional fans. How many kids growing up in the Eighties wanted to watch a movie pitting Rambo vs the Terminator or the Commando or the Raw Deal cop or whatever? They might be a little long in the tooth, but it would still be cool.

Phil lives in/near Denver. L.A. may or may not be his favorite team (though I'd point out that he first bought into MLS with the Rapids) but the Rapids are his home team.

Whoops. I guess I am wrong. I could have sworn that a news report came out after LA won, in which it stated that it was especially sweet for Anschutz for these reasons. But I suppose someone as plugged in as Anschutz spends as much of his time away from home as he does at home.

On the other hand, maybe it moves my master plan for FC Hollywood that much closer to reality :).

Wolfgang Puck is a soccer fan in L.A.. Last year he did an episode for tailgating cooking. He shows up at the Rosebowl parking lot with an MLS ball and his buddies show up with UCLA American football uni's. He says 'I thought we were going to a futbol game' and kicks the MLS ball at them.

Kobe Bryant dreamed of playing in Serie A and still follows Venezia in Serie B where he played in the youth program for quite a few years. Has said before that he would be a soccer player if not for a neck injury he suffered when he was 17 (perhaps the Jan Koller type?).

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen is a soccer fan, but he's already invested in the Seattle Sounders.

Julia Stiles is known to support the Metrostars and has been able to push film directors into giving MLS free product placement.

That's news to me. I've never seen evidence of either of those claims. Where'd you get the info?

I think we are Phil's favorite team, he's building us the stadium, and he was on the cover of Soccer America posing with the team after winning MLS Cup. Phil might live in Denver, but he spends a lot of time in L.A. as AEG is based out here.

Sure, that's why he attends every Rapids home game.

Other celebs spotted at Rapids home games:
Joe Sakic
Peter Forsberg
(both very rich)

Also that new Nuggets player Nene Hilario from Brazil although he's more of a pro athelete than a celeb.
