And thought...wow, I wonder what that Benfica team would be like if Eddie Johnson was playing up top...soo much speed and skill from their wingers combined with a big fast striker like Eddie....

I watched it too, and found myself wondering the same thing. It's been so long since I've seen Eddie Johnson play, though, I had hard time imagining how fast he would look against those guys.

Great news for England....Man Utd out of Europe...more rest for Rooney, Rio and Neville....not to mention Smith & possibly Richardson...

I got a phone call about the time Ronaldo got subbed off and I thought I caught him flipping off the fans. Did he? Do they use that gesture over there? Maybe it was a salute. :)

which fans?
He played for Sporting before Manchester and the Benfica fans were on him everytime he touched the ball.

I was glad to see their narcolepsy tour of the Champions league come to an end. Nothing could have given me more pleasure. I've never seen a more tedious pile of manure than the matches espn2 has shown this fall/winter. Seemingly every single freaking match was ManU, or Chelsea (maybe one or two Liverpool matches) and every single last one of the buggers was utter tedium from begining to end. Why on earth were we put through this torture instead of watching the glory of Barcelona, or anyone else practically for that matter. Espn isn't exactly growing the sport and garnering viewers when they torture us with this cr@p. Interesting that this was ManU's first, and only entertaining match of the entirety of Group play. Thank God it's finally over, but I bet instead of Barcelona, Inter, Milan, or even the Beasley factor with PSV, we'll still have Chelsea and Liverpool shoved down our throats nonstop starting again in February.

...don't know which match you were watching today but I thought the Man U game was excellent.....and apart from the diving/time wasting/faking injuries by Benfica in the last 15 mins or so really enjoyed the game.

I liked when Rooney fouled the defender, took a dive himself so as not to be called for a foul, then stood up to bitch at the defender for diving.
Such smarts and class in one package...

As a Pool fan, i don't complain about them showing the Reds or other English teams, but it would be nice to see Barca unleash their Reign of Terror on non La Liga teams.
I catch all the matches at my leisure on www.uefa.com where $4/month gets you unlimited access to game videos that are uploaded within hours of gametime. I also get live audio for the office thru the site, so it works our rather nicely, and allows me to watch the games whenever i want.

Once I've got a computer that doesn't operate like it was made of wood and featured on the flintstones, I'll be sure to take advantage of that :D. Thanks for the heads up ;).

Thought match was decent, better towards the end though. Surprized at all the Rooney hating though, what a great player. ManU just is not playing well at all though, actually looked lost at times. Sort of strange when they have an experienced team and all. They certainly played their way out of it and did not remotely deserve to move on. I would however agree that ESPN is not putting on the best matches in the world. I would have loved to see the Barca match that apparently followed for everyone else but us.

I forgot to say, "with the exception," of when I ripped the ManU games but if you look in the post I did say, "Interesting that this was ManU's first, and only entertaining match of the entirety of Group play." This was the first time they played an entertaining match yet, and it will be the last in the '05-'06 tournament.

Yeah, I didnt' get to see the whole thing, but it seemed a quite lively game. Tons better than that borefest they showed yesterday.

Ronaldo very clearly flipped off a group of fans; they had him on camera doing it for about 3-4 seconds. That being said, he should have been subbed off a while back for Park. Both he and Park are inconsistent - they have nights they look great and nights they cant do sh-t; this was a night Ronaldo couldnt do sh-t.
But as to the original point of this thread, yeah I was thinking about EJ playing the entire time I watching the game. They had so much speed, and were offering great services forward. While EJ has holes in his game, he is a clinical finisher (IMHO) - he would flourish in a system like that.

If you watched that - two seconds after they showed Rooney jawing at the guy (and the guy giving it right back) - they gave each other a hand slap and a pat on the back. Thats not classless - classless is Eissen continually going studs up into peoples knees this season - and then denying it over and over again, and refusing to apologize in every case.

I thought that Ronaldo was putting his finger in front of his mouth, like gestering the crowd to be quiet as they booed him of the field, not flipping them off.

I'm a tv repairman, after I fixed one of the tv's, I noticed the game was on, then I left, does that count? :D

I think the middle finger incident occured as he was walking off the field and into the ManU bench area.
