This article states that "soccer greats" such as "Pele, Johann Cruyff, Cobi Jones, and Roger Milla" will perform the actual draw for the World Cup on Friday. Anybody know if this is true? Or is this just a typo?

I'm as big a Cobi fan as anybody else, but I'd be shocked if he were asked to perform the draw with Pele and Cruyff. Would it be because of the number of caps that he has? Or World Cup matches?

Hopefully Cobi will nail Raf. Marquez in the head with a ping-pong ball

How somebody can "hate" Cobi Jones really bothers me.

His performence vs. Mexico in WC'02 should make up for everything. The guy literally gave up his body for his country.

I love the way that one is stated though. Soccer greats Pele, Cruyff, Cobi Jones, and Roger Milla. It's like they were just sneakin' Cobi's name in there on the sly. Talk about playing the old Sesame Street game of which of these ones is not like the others.

Still, I love Cobi, and I'm sure he's stoked to share the stage with Pele and Cruyff. I would be.

Yeah, this had me scratching my head as well. I have nothing against Cobi. But... this just sounds like an SAT question: "which one doesn't belong"

Nice honer for Cobi but...it's a little like including Mike Burns with the all time greats of the game. If they were looking for an American, they could have gotten several americans (no, not Freddy Adu) that would have been a more appropriate choice than Cobi. Keller, Donovan, Reyna, Beasley, ... the list goes on and on. Cobi's a nice guy and had a good career but,...

I think that he is one of the more recognizable players that the US has had. People from other countries have heard of him.

How funny would it have been for FIFA to march Freddy Adu up there. If that was the case, I'd really start to worry that Nike was going to take over the world.

Why is this a problem? Cobi isn't Pele or Johan Cruyff, but neither is Roger Milla. I'm only surprised there's no representative from Asia.

I'm not saying it's a problem, and I'm not even saying that Cobi doesn't deserve it. After all, the guy is what third in the world in caps? He's given his heart and soul to his country, and has been a terrific pioneer for MLS as well. It just surprised me that FIFA would ask him. As much as I like Cobi, I'm not sure I'd put him with Pele and Johann Cruyff. I didn't know what the thinking behind it was, whether it was to have an American representative, or what.

But more power to Cobi, it's great to receive that kind of honor.

While I can't argue that Cobi is no Pele or Cruyff and I also can't argue that Milla is no Pele or Cruyff, I also can clearly distinguish the playing careers of Cobi Jones and Roger Milla. Milla was a "star" (or at least, a "media darling") of a World Cup. Cobi's career was far short of that.

FIFA needed someone to help fill their dreadlock quota. :)

They just wanted someone from everyone confederation, but decided that Asia and Oceania don't count - perhaps because their "legendary" players are still active. Our "legendary" Cobi is at least in his offseason.
