This Pot is the key one from a US 2nd round qualification perspective. With Serbia moved into the Special Pot - the choices are Croatia, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, & Ukraine.

My ranking:
1. Netherlands
2. Czech Republic
3. Sweden
4. Portugal
5. Croatia
6. Poland
7. Ukraine

I posted on the Pot 4 teams about this subject as well, but the ELO rankings for Pot 2 are as follows:

Netherlands (2nd place globally; 1959 points), Czechia (5; 1931), Portugal (9; 1880), Sweden (10; 1874), Croatia (13; 1834), Poland (16; 1812), Switzerland (28; 1747), Ukraine (29; 1739).

These rankings, strangely enough, seem to create pairs of teams that are virtually indistinguishable in quality: Dutch and Czechs, Portugese and Swedes, Croats and Poles, Swiss and Ukrainians. Not an afficianado of Euro soccer, by any means, so others may be better at interpreting this data and making adjustments to it, but I find starting with results from a trustworthy statistical method is a better place to begin than just using perceptions. (With the ideal method being knowledgeable individuals interpreting and adjusting the raw data.)

This is just an example of how difficult it is to advance in the Cup .
Any team with ambitions for a 4th game must get at least 1 point from one of these teams . I know Portugal had a lousy WC in '02 , but that wont be the case always .

Soccer/Football is not a sport where one can always say that if team A > B and B > C, then it is always true that A > C. Not so...
Different styles of play for each team make some teams easier than others. It seems pretty clear that Sweden has a hard time playing Croatia. Perhaps it is also taken into account that Croatia drew several games against weaker competition, whereas Sweden was much more effective at shutting out "minnows".

Besides, were it not for a disallowed goal and a bizarre handball, both SWE-CRO games would have ended in fair draws. :)
