I was being serious. Why do you call it college and not university?


We actually do have things called universities. A university in America is a school that has a collection of colleges. For example, the University of Michigan has an undergraduate portion of the school, but also has a Graduate School, Law School, etc. Colleges, like the one I go to, have just the undergraduate portion, not a collection of schools.

It may because many of our universities began as colleges before getting larger, being absorbed by other schools, etc. But most of what we call colleges are actually universities that have colleges.
