Alright, I've posted on some other boards, might as well post this here.
If you could pick one of the seeds to be in the USMNT's group, who would you take and why?

I voted for Spain, the perennial underachievers.

I too voted for Spain, even thought they're my favorite European National Team. But I have to say the truth, they are not as good as the other Teams on this Poll.

I'd pick Mexico in a heartbeat if they were an option. We own them.
Unfortunately, we have to pick a better team.
So I pick Spain. They have a history of underperforming, and they like to attack. The US loves to defend and counter. Perfect match.

If it weren't for the home field advantage, I'd say Germany, but I like our chances with Spain.

Spain are chokers, whiners, cryers and primmadonnas. So yes you guessed it, I voted them. I could see us fairing well against them.
call me crazy but i say Brazil and hope we snag 2nd

i picked argentina...i think we could at least draw them and they would most likely beat the two other teams in our group, thus making the top two spots almost automatic if we could take the two other teams.

I'd love to see us play Brazil, just not in the group stage, it could cost us. I'd rather have them in a friendly actually as it would be wise to avoid them.

First I voted for Germany forgetting the home field advantage. The home team always makes it out of the first round. So I take back my vote.
Second. Nice avibreast

I said France. They struggled in thier gorup and didnt score a lot of goals. Probally a risk, but I think now is a better time than ever to play les blues.

I also say Spain. I think I would rank my preferences Spain, Italy, France, England, Argentina, Germany and then Brazil. I think what it really comes down to is I pray to god we get a more favorable unseeded Euro team.

I voted for Italy, with Spain a CLOSE second.
Reason? Yes, Spain is a perennial underachiever but Italy is IMHO much more vulnerable in the group stage & gets stronger as the tournament advances. Therefore, the BEST time to get them is in the group stage.
Not to mention, that I'm a bit miffed about Italy nipping us by ONE point for the seed & I'd love to get a shot at them in the first round!! Not to say, that the US "deserved" a seed but the fact that Mexico (what a JOKE!!) & Italy got seeded ahead of us bothers me a bit.
Hopefully, we'll get either Italy (my preference) or Spain in our group. Neither one "scares" me, based on their past first round performances!!

Spain is the obvious answer, given their tendency to underperform in past WCs. But it's worth noting that their underperformance often happens at the elimination round not the group stage. Last time around they were probably the most dominant team in the group stages, running up three easy victories (though not against the hardest foes). Their performance in the playoff against Norway was dominant, too, which suggests they can really get the job done when it's on the line. We just have to hope we get them on a down note.
France would be a good draw too--they simply haven't looked impressive in years. I think they're between an old guard and a new group, and the transition's been rocky.
Looking at the options, I'd feel confident of a decent result against most of these teams, with the possible exception of Brazil (invariably, we'd get a one-goal loss/"moral victory") and England (they're looking very strong these days and I suspect they'd do a job on us).

I didn't vote for France, but I have my doubts if they will make it out of the first round.
Zidane had to come out of retirement just to get them to the WC, and who knows what his form will be in another 7 months.

Here is a thought. Stop worrying about what seed we want to play and start appreciating the fact that no number #1 seed really wants to play us. We can match up athletically with most teams. As a matter of fact, we do have some speed. Donovan, Beasley and Johnson will be a handful for opposing teams.
Oh my it is the big bad fill in the blank European/South American team. Screw that. We have the coach and some pretty good players. I am not afraid of any country and neither should any of you.
Yep, you guessed it. I had my bowl of weaties this morning.

I voted for France, although I wouldn't cry about Spain, Italy, or even Germany.
I think our youth and speed would cause problems for the French. They're definitely on the downswing and had to call in some of their "legends" to insure qualification.
The Spanish always seem to find a way to lose, but I think they'll figure something out eventually. What I've seen of them doesn't scare me and I think the Yanks would be fine.
The Italians sort of fall into the same group as France for me, although I haven't seen a whole lot of them lately. The finishing would need to be there to beat them, but I'd like to think we'd find a way. Besides, it might make Rossi cry and I'm all for that.
The Germans are at home, but they haven't played as many competitive games as the other teams in recent years. Mainly, I'd love to get another chance at them after the '02 quarterfinal...

Spain just lost two of their starters to season ending injuries.

I picked Italy because their best strikers are aging quickly and we all know if your frustrate Totti, he'll do something stupid.
and to shut up everybody about Rossi, we dont need him.
