It is cool. drool-cool

Hmmm...not sure about the mp3 conversion, but my friend has had a vinyl to CD burner for a few years now. It's a pain in the ass, yea, but I'm interested to know what's particularly new about this product?

Well, I took the time to actually read the whole thing, and now I get it.

Thanks for everyone's time.

It come with a nice software (Audacity is open source) I have used that for ripping my vinyl and love it! I wish the Soundsoap 2 was not for limited use, that is what really cleans up the sound quaility..but like most cakewalk products $$$. The fact that is is a all in one plug and play to me is great!

If you have ever had a chance to try out Audacity..do it you will have a new hobby remastering your old albums. **its free folks..Free!

So excuse me for being dim, but help me out here:

I can use this as a regular stereo turntable.

And if I want to convert an album to digital format I just unhook it from my stereo and plug the usb into my computer, yes?

Because, like many I'd imagine, my stereo and computer are in two separate places. But that doesn't seem a problem. I guess the only question is if you can keep it hooked up to your stereo -- maybe setup a laptop simultaneously next to the turntable and create digital files as your playing through your stereo.

Yes?

Why would people ask you about me?

Yes?

Yup..can do both!

If you have one of those $$$ media centers..you could enjoy classic turnstyle mode...or click on you remastered vinyl rips and chill for hours without getting up to flip the record over.

I Kinda prefer the classic sound of a record..but cant take it on the go..so a download to your MP3 player is just clicks away..Plus the value of saving records that you cant find on cd is the best.

Oh...for Ipod folks...you are not left out.

I never understood the market for vinyl converters. All you have to do is run the output from your stereo to the line-in on your soundcard, no? And Audacity is free, so really, it's <$10 for the cable (probably closer to $5, depending on length), yet people can sell "kits" for much more.

Granted, at least this one seems cooler since you can play vinyl directly through your PC without having to be near your stereo.

Well, I don't listen to vinyl enough to have a record player anymore, but I have my lovely collection of sub pop singles clubs 7"s that I would love to have on my computer. This is a cheap and easy option to let me do that. I might have to get one and then try to hunt down other 7"s from my youth.

My stereo is in one room, the computer another. I don't have a laptop. This can be connected directly to the computer without having to go through the stereo's receiver, right?

I still buy vinyl at thrift stores, etc. My son found a big box of records on the sidewalk. Being able to rip them to cd is something I'd like to do, but just find too much of a pain given my current set up. This price seems right.

That's my understanding. I've been buying 7"s on ebay all day in anticipation of this thing.

Yeah me too...I've been looking for old 12' from the mid-late 80's. Thrift stores are hit or miss for me.

Yes.. Its plug and play.

Its like hooking up a port cd burner. Intall the software...plug in USB fromthe thing...then slap on your black 12' or 45 of choice and put the needle to the record...and listen...record...mix...whatever you like!

Yes, just connect TAPE OUT to LINE IN, using an RCA-phono to 3.5mm cable (not too hard to find at an electronics store.)

I have to admit a USB one is nifty for the novelty value, but I'd rather just save the $139 and lug my stereo upstairs instead.
