brazil does have top players but its really about teamwork and hardship....
portugal do have great talent now and in the future....
RACISM HAS TO BE REMOVED BY EDUCATION NOT BY PUNISHMENT....
like i said we need more coaches like big phil they need to be more outspoken and determined....and stand by there clubs and country. :D

"I think that, after coming second in the European championship, we deserve to be seeded because the team that finished first (Greece) won't be at the World Cup," he added.
What kind of logic is that? Doesn't that make thier second place finish look even worse? Oh man, please, if there is a God up there, please put Portugal in the US group so we can smack 'em up side the head again...

Yes I am a stupid American, but I can read, albeit with great difficulty. I did read the entire article and I do like Scolari and think Portugal is lucky to have him.
Other than the shite you mentioned, what exactly we did at the 2002 WC is beat an unprepared team that felt it could just show up and win by reputation. The coach is to blame for that, you have a much better coach now so I'm sure that won't be a problem this time around.
What did Portugal do the last time we saw them in WC action? Got outplayed in the second half by yet another 'inferior' opponent. And right before that they were in the tunnel at halftime trying to bribe the Koreans into chucking the match as they clearly weren't good enough by merit to get into the second round even with the US getting their backsides handed to them by the Polish.
Just MHO of course.

The whole thing is a bit of coach's posturing like Bruce Arena did last week, but bringing in the Czechs as a straw horse is stupid.

If ignorance is bliss, you must be the happiest POS on this board.
Do you get most of your facts from Korean guys who can't speak English?

Apparently, it's no secret that Portuguese players were attempting to get the Koreans to let them score on them, allowing both teams to advance. Dig around on google and be shocked, but luckily for the USA, as well as for international football, Korea wanted the win and got it.
While I like Portugal, and would certainly not mind them being seeded, there was simply nothing positive they could take from their 2002 WC experience. And we will leave it at that.

Yes I realize that , but in all fairness Portugal has been more competitive then the Czechs .
They are not the World beaters that FIFA portrays them to be.

"but bringing in the Czechs as a straw horse is stupid."
In all fairness, Scloari probably figures that a system that rates them over Portugal is flawed. They lost 2 recent qualifying games, 3 in total. Portugal went undefeated.
And the Czechs have even less WC accomplishments than Portugal in the last few. I'm pretty sure their last time in the WC was in 1990 and coincidentally, they were in a group with the US, Austria and Italy, if I remember correctly.
It was so long ago, they were still Czechoslovakia. :D
Having said all that, the Czechs are a very good team. But so is Portugal.

nice to see you admitted it.
Scolari/ Portugal is lucky to have him
thank you sir

your right on that we were unprepared and i thought usa played well and deserved to win.
The coach is to blame for that
we did have a bad coach i will admit it.... his strategies were to blame.
you had you say i respect that but as far as the article states he is right....im not talking about the past only about the future....
we were dominate in the world cup qualifiers and we came close to winning the euros if it wasnt for a hardworking greece team....btw i didnt cry when portugal lost greece outplayed them.
but lets face it mexico being seeded then portugal would be transparent.

A Korean guy, who didn't understand English, told the media that's what Figo was saying. The story was later recanted.
But if it makes you feel better, you go on believing what you want to believe.

I cannot remember one single WC match of Portugal, but yeah they should get a seed.

Was that Korean guy named Ahn Jung-hwan? That is the striker from Korea who was quoted as saying Figo tried to arrange the fix. Has Ahn recanted his story or was he misquoted?
If he was misquoted and didn't say those things, I will apologize to you and all Portugal fans. But the quotes I read at the time were supposedly from his mouth, not some anonymous Korean.
Anyway, just looked at the pots and I won't be shocked if we're gonna have another love-in together in the same group in about six months time - here's to hoping were grouped together because no matter what it will be fun.

The issue is that the European Championships has only European teams; thus, it is hard to use that competition for World Cup seedings. Interestingly, the Euro Championships uses World Cup qualifying but not the World Cup to determine seeds; this works because the qualifying groups are only European teams. Apples to Apples, Oranges to Oranges.

I think Scolari was referring to the Fifa world rankings, which play a part in the criteria for the WC seedings! I thing he is baffled to how the C. Republic was ranked 2nd or 3rd and Portugal 10th when Portugal had a better qualifying campaign for the WC and went further then them in the Euro's, in which i agree with Scolari
