He's bald, he's s***
He plays when no one's fit
Pascal Cygan, Pascal Cygan
He needs to go. Can we try having Reyes in that left back position? I am sure Reyes can do better than him there.

If opta had an attempted tackle : foul conceded ratio Reyes' would be very close to 1. Between that and the rate at which posters have complained about Reyes' inability to stay on his feet after being bumped I really can't understand the calls for trying him as a back.

This came up on the Arsenal/Bolton thread & I hope someone could shed some light on the subject:
Is there a reason why Senderos isn't put in the middle & Toure put at LB? This has to be a better option than Cygan in that spot, isn't it?
Another thing caught my attention: does this exposed weakness at LB mean that Ashley Cole is going nowhere in January? If we want to do well in CL, we can't sell our best option at LB. Can you imagine oft-injured Clichy as a starter w/Cygan as a back-up vs. Juventus/Barcelona/Real Madrid? If Pascal Cygan becomes our permanent back-up plan at LB, kiss Europe goodbye (probably for next year as well).

I think it's because Wenger's afraid of putting two large guys who aren't exactly fleet of foot at CB. I think, at some point though, he might need to try, just because the Cygan experiment so far is ranking right up there with Bruce Banner's gamma bomb test in terms of disasters.
As for LB, remember that we have Hoyte out on loan right now, so he'd be able to cover if we sold Cole. The timing of the two injuries just happened to really suck. What are the odds that both of our top two LBs would get hurt within a week or so of each other?

I see what you're saying, but for an elite team to have (if Cole were sold) Clichy, Hoyte, and ??? (Eboue, as some have suggested/more Pascal) as options at LB doesn't sound like a club who plans to go far in CL. I wouldn't feel too good about our chances to finish in a CL spot for next season either (our first season in a much bigger venue). Can Arsenal really afford to take this type of risk (i.e. sell Ashley)?

I think it's because Wenger's afraid of putting two large guys who aren't exactly fleet of foot at CB.I've been convinced this is bollocks for ages and have said so several times. Toure is inept in the air and tactically poor. I think it's time to give Senderos a run alongside Sol. If Toure can doa job at left-back while Cole and Clichy are out then that will be a bonus.

Oh yeah, you're the same guy that says Jens is crap all the time. I'd take Toure over Sol or Senderos. Sure it might make sense to play Toure at LB just because we've got nobody else but I'm glad Wenger doesn't share your views on Toure's play at CB. He understands that without Toure our backline would get caught out by fast forwards week after week. I can't wait to see you backpedal from this when we lose Toure for the African cup this winter. :p Do me a favor an tell me the goals that Toure has given up over the last couple of seasons. I'll be happy to reply with the ones that are down to Sol and Senderos.

I think that Toure may be needed for his physicality--not that he employed it vs. Bolton. We can't allow ourselves to be pushed around so easily. Where's the muscle?
Cygan though--well, I can't see how we need him much at all. At least Senderos puts in a header or two on occasion. And he tends not to get totally lost out in midfield....or, let Cygan stay there, but tether him to a particular area, so he doesn't end up leaving Gilberto or Cesc to backpedal too far.....
