the problem is, there has to be movement toward a defined group of players. I don't know how wise it would be to keep looking at more players. Realistically, Veron is not going to be looked at unless there are sudden unexpected injuries. A lot of the players on your list have been called up, just under half of them.

Quiroga is about the only one at the moment that I would say yes to, as pointed out thoguh the list is incorrect because many of them have indeed been called up.

locoxriver, i'm v surprised you say no to samuel. i have always thought of him as one of the world's top defenders. is he not in good form or is there some other reason why you wouldn't take him?

i'm also v surprised that you would take gallardo. is he in particularly good form at the moment? as far as i'm concerned, his day has been and gone. he failed to make a big impact in europe nor for the national team. also, with riquelme, d'alessandro, aimar, messi, he's v unlikely to get a game even if he does make the squad. if you take too many playmakers you don't leave much room for other options, such as an extra defender or a different kind of midfielder.

el viejo matias, from the little information i have, quiroga isn't a huge hit in germany, solid rather than anything special. of course i'm not dismissing him out of hand, some players adjust to playing abroad better than others, it doesn't neccessarily mean they can't play well for their national team. but with milito and gonzalo ahead of him in the pecking order, do you really think he warrants a place? however, colo isn't a first-choice for deportivo so maybe his place isn't certain.

i'm surprsied everyone is dismissing duscher. can someone explain? he is only 26, is coveted by many other clubs, and is apparently playing v well for deportivo. my guess is that if both demichelis and duscher came on the market, there would be more interest in duscher, but i'm not sure.

soccer krazy, regarding your list, lopez at porto is a success there, v hard working but perhaps doesn't have the class to make the squad. rosales hasn't been a success at ajax even though dutch football isn't the best.

Here's what I agree with:

2.D'alessandro
5.Bilos
6.Solari
10.Mauro rosales
11.Rodrigo palacios
17.Marcelo gallardo

Rosales (this guy was awesome during olympics), Palacios, Gallardo and Solari
should be seriously considered.

gaucho, i agree about Rosales, I thought he played really.
I just watched Villarreal-Barcelona. Every time I see Gonzalo Rodriguez, I like him more and more. This guy is good. Has he been getting called to the national team? I don't think he's played, but maybe he's on the bench? Does somebody know?

Rosales I thought was very good in copa america but he is a little too small. I don't know how he is playing these days. Samuel is no loner "il muro" like in the past, very slow, but I think he is neccessary because there is not one argentine player better than him in that position, mayber milito, but Peckerman doesn't seem to give him enough chances. D'Alessandro, definitely not, his lack of commitment cost us the copa america, remember that center which Adriano scored from? D'alessandro could have intercepted the player that kicked it but he was too lazy to do it. In his team, Wolfsbourg, he is not doing well either.

Quiroga is a no nonsense defender, he will not be outstanding but he has a coolnes about him under pressure that I really like. Ayala, Collicini and Samuel are known for making some very rash challenges, it would be nive to have a sub like Quiroga down the strectch who is a capable player knows the stadia and country and feels calm and collected at the back. Gallardo has had his day people let it go we have far too much talent at this spot to look at him again. Solari is an option I would consider again because he does have the skills and the ablity to attack from the flanks.

How's Solari been doing lately?

Well I watched him yesterday in a B-squad for Inter against Rangers and as far as Im concerned he was the man of the match. He was well defended but took much of the Ranger's attention and carried the ball well and opened up opportunities for his team very well... I was impressed.

If he's playing well, I think he should be called. He is not only talented, but a very inteligent player who can widen the field and provide different options.

I saw Inua running his arse against the mexican s the other day. Man that's someone to consider. Ran the whole game, not even the pollution in mexico DF affected him. To me tevez is still the best striker, way above Crespo. Tevez needs Riquelme and Messi to set him up. or Riquelme can set both of them.

sorry to troll, but since 60% of the argentine population is Italian and more than half the NT also is Italian or of Italian descent I was wondering do Italians in argentina cheer for the Azzurri? or for argentina NT?

Mostly for Argentina, except for a few old farts I knew when I was a kid who are probably dead by now, who used to root for Italy.

I think Gonzalo Rodriguez should be one of our defenders. I hope Pekerman is considering him.

Some do but after seeing the italians hating argentinians duringi the 1990 WC , I think a lot turned away.
