What will happen to Bruce Arena if we fail to go to the second round next year in Germany ? will he quit the job or stay for another term or probably getting sack by USSF ? but here are some possibilities which most likely to happen :
1. hired by one of Concacaf teams ( El-Salvador/Jamaica/Guatemala )
2. coaching a second/first div team in england.
3. back coaching one of MLS teams.
4. retired from soccer and has his own business.

I foresee that Bruce's future holds many trips to the team buffet.

even if arena goes 3 and out, it's his choice as to whether he returns or not...
I don't see him going anywhere until after 2010...
unless some euro club throws a TON of money at him, which is highly UNLIKELY

Rumor has it that he is going to coach the US National Lacrosse Team after the 2006 WC.

3 and out really depends on the way in which it happens. A group with Brazil, Chzech Rep and Ukraine where we win one game and lose the others in good, competetive matches, noone blames Bruce. A repeat of '98 and he's taking a seperate flight home!

Regardless of our performance in Germany...
Arena will retire and buy a Winnebego so that he may traverse America while listening to Howard Stern on Sirrus, grow a really long beard and do book signings.
Much to the chagrin of many in the youth soccer community the "El Bruce American Tour" will gather steam when John Harkes and Cobi Jones decide to join him. Freddy Adu will try crash the party, only to be sent home for cheating at cards.
Living from Friendly Sams campground to campground Arena and "the boys" will live on a steady diet of Cheetos, Pepsi products and really heinous 7-11 Chili dogs. While the endorsement dollars will really work in their favor, public appearances will tail off when body oder becomes a real problem.
Having made the trip from East to West, the trio will have thier Forest Gump moment at the Home Depot Center in LA when they simply decide to turn around and head for Miluakee where they will demand a new MLS franchise...claiming to have comprimising photo's of Don Garber and certain un-named Chivas girls.
Sorry Adam :)

What makes you think Bruce Arena will be our coach for WC 2006? That's highly presumptious.

Arena will end up in Europe coaching a 2nd Division English squad with EPL ambitions.
Arena's agent knows Bruce wants to test himself at the club level in Europe - and since Bruce doesn't speak any Spanish and seems to be fond of France - England is the best place to start.
Who really knows - with Americans owning ManU, with the Krafts about to invest in Liverpool and Milan Mandaric and others involved in Europe it isn't so far fetched to think that Arena could get a job in Europe.
Last point - when the US plays in Europe - Arena is going to be much more visible than he is today - and i don't mean because he will be even heavier.
If the US makes a similar run in Europe - they will likely have to do it by knocking out a European team and that will be a game that will attract attention.
The fact that Arena would then have done it twice would be a feat that would earn him a great deal of soccer street cred. With players like Reyna, Beasley, McBride, Keller, O'Brien, I'm going for it Rossi and others - the tiem could be ripe for Europe to get it - that the US has arrived.
That will be something that Arena's agent can exploit - already with these agents they are much more qualified than they were before and have international clients and have to deal with international clubs etc. . . so the contact and networks are all there.
The only thing that has to happen is Arena and the US have to deliver in Europe - and if that happens - you can bet that Arena will get a job out of this.
I don't think he cares as much about the money (he won't make less) but more about living in Europe - challenging himself again in a club setting - and who knows - seeing how far that would take him in soccer.
He could always return to the US later in his 60s and take the NT helm one final time - when Freddy is ready to win us a WC.
I'm more intrigued by what happens to Klinsman - the dude is living in the US - knows MLS from his work with Sigi - and his son is growing up here.
That is a guy I would be interested to see what he does next - he could be our next surprise soccer coach even if Germany doesn't do too well in Europe by their own standards (which I would blame on mediocre talent more than Klinsy) he could demonstate enough to get the top US job.
I just don't see any other solid candidates - Bradley is damaged goods from the MetroStars and might always be what Kreis is the the NT. Solid, hard working player who can't translate that to anything meaningful at the next level.
Sampson in my mind is still too poor of a people manager to be able to hold a NT together over 4 years with players coming in and out.
Gansler is probably going to retire soon.
Sigi is an interesting choice.
Then after that you have guys like Mooch.

i think he has enough credibility as a good coach because he is able to bring a team from finish last to the last eight

Il Bruce is one of the most successful international coaches today. He has crafted a new program into a regional powerhouse. He will stay with the U.S. for this world cup and beyond if we advance. I think EPL is not out of the question. He's a winner. Bottomline. Any team would be lucky to have him sucking down brownies and cold cut stuffed hoagies on their sideline.

There are only 20 EPL teams and more than 20 qualified coaches around the world.

I could foresee a scenario where da Bruce takes the US to another quorter-final appearance or better in Germany, an EPL team sings him, and he's back to coach the US team in 09.

Bruce will take over for Sir Alex at Manchester United. His first move at the new club will be to relegate Rossi to the reserves for the rest of his time there as punishment for declining to represent the Stars and Stripes. Rossi is devestated by the demotion and never gets over the fact that we knocked Italy out in the quarters in Germany.

On a related note, Senator Ted Kennedy, the New York Times, and the BigSoccer Politics forum posters are demanding he give a schedule for withdrawing.
