Why don't we play Portugal on March 1 ? this would be great and will certainly draw a lot of attantion in Portugal & Europe.

I would like to see them play Spain, Italy, or Czechs. Portugal wouldn't be a bad choice either.

you forgot the most important friendly for you: against Germany in march..

I think this will be one of your biggest friendly to play against Germany..

after this friendly I think Arena will set his team for WC 06....
I think he will send in Germany his "favorite" team that he would like to send
to Germany WC 06 as well..

Norway should be not that so important...Norway did not qualify ..they lost against Czech Republic

What I would like to see: Friendly: Czech-USA
or maybe USA-France

I wouldn't mind playing France, but I would rather face Czechs or Spain.

I also would rather to see friendly game against Czech. Arena should think about this. Czech play good attractive attacking soccer. Maybe after friendly
against Germany Arena should schedule a friendly against Czech Republic.
I think I have already told that USA and Czech have similar style of game, which I mean attacking soccer style.

For friendly Germany-USA I will have ticket:)

That will be the main course, and everyone has already known about it.

Not being an expert on any of these sides, would I be correct in suggesting that the principle strength of Norway, Japan, Canada, and Germany is more team/tactical than individual? (Clearly, they're at different levels as teams.)

If that's true in general, I would like to see our Mar. 1 Euro friendly be against a team with a more 1-or-2-stars driven team, so we can get used to that kind of opponent as well.

Just a thought; I'm no scout and could be way off.

"The U.S. team also intends to play a friendly in Europe on March 1 against an opponent which hasn't been finalized, and tentatively is slated to face Germany at Dortmund on March 22."

i'd imagine it will be easier/better for US Soccer to set the remaining friendly schedule (March 1 in Europe hopefully, April somewhere, and 3 matches in May at home) once the draw has been conducted on 12/9.

There was some sort of rumor on the MNT 2006 schedule thread that the US was looking to schedule one of Portugal, Spain, or Czech Republic -- likely depending on who they draw next Friday.

A little birdie told me that we will play the Czech Republic on March 1 if we are not drawn in the same group and that Portugal is plan B.

This is also what I heard, from at least one source that someone linked on here if I remember right. Not exactly sure how you narrow it down to one of three squads. I wonder what the three represent and why one would end up being a better option than another or if they're all grouped together because they represent something vaguely similar. I'd love to play any of them, though in many ways Spain and Portugal are the two teams I'd least like to play, because the upset factor against them would be reduced if we'd already played them in early March. I wouldn't expect the Czech's to overlook us, I would Portugal and Spain, Spain because they never seem to come with the right mental attitude, Portugal because they'd be so full of themselves and assured of avenging their lost honor that they wouldn't be mentally tough either. Of course I could be wrong on both counts, but I love that we are playing one of these three squads in Europe.

Both Portugal and CR would give us great preparation for the Cup.....I guess most of the teams are waiting until after the draw to set the opponent for Mar. 1.

Well, if you have this on inside info, thank you for passing it along to us, and this is indeed great news! I'd be thrilled if we can schedule a friendly with the Czech Republic, as they're one of the best teams in Europe, and playing them in Europe will be great preparation for the cup. I really think our success in Japorea was due in part to our excellent lineup of pre-WC friendlies, which included Ireland, Italy, Germany, and the Netherlands. There's no doubt that we learned important things in each of those friendlies.
