seems like everything is going wrong for Kaiserslautern, now this time their game against frankfurt will be postponed due to a problem with the stadium, which, lets not forget, is supposed to be a host in the WC.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kaiserslautern's home game with Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday has been postponed.

The Fritz-Walter Stadion, one of the venues for next year's World Cup finals in Germany, is not fit to host the Bundesliga game, raising safety concerns about the stadium.

FCK have revealed that a crack has appeared in the East Stand and it will not be repaired in time for the weekend fixture.

Although the club are convinced that there will not be any problems going forward, it is a worry that the rebuilding work on the stadium was actually completed last month.

A new date for the Frankfurt match has yet to be announced.

The game is rescheduled for Weds, Dec 14. It is my understanding that this is a minor repair that just cannot be completed by tomorrow. Or maybe it is a way to get more time to prepare against that powerhouse Eintract Frankfurt. Bayern Munich is a much better club to face with a ************ defense and a new coach.

Kaiserslautern's Stadium Closed Because Of Roof Cracks

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany (AP) - 1. FC Kaiserslautern's stadium was closed Friday because of cracks in the roof covering the stands - raising concerns the arena won't be ready for the World Cup.

The closure of Fritz-Walter stadium forced a postponement of Saturday's Bundesliga match against Frankfurt until Dec. 14.

The cracks were discovered on stands being expanded to seat 48,000 for the World Cup. One of 12 World Cup venues, it will host four first-round matches and a quarterfinal.

The arena is one of Germany's oldest, dating back to 1919, although problems have also been reported at Frankfurt and Nuernberg.

In February, a steward at Kaiserslautern was hit by pieces falling from the awning. The renovation of the stadium has been delayed by Kaiserslautern's financial problems.

Germany's World Cup committee said it wasn't worried so long as reconstruction was finished on time for soccer's showcase event.

"We don't see any reason to second-guess Kaiserslautern as a place to host World Cup matches. We will, however, follow the situation closely," committee spokesman Jens Grittner said.

The Bundesliga told Kaiserslautern to secure a backup stadium for home matches in case repairs drag on.

**Comment: What stadium would they use?? Saarbruecken's??

I assume their backup stadium would have to meet Bundesliga standards, correct???

Mannheim would be my guess.

Mannheim would be my guess.

Even with the sheer hatred between FCK fans and Waldhof Mannheim fans??

You wouldn't have any Mannheim fans in the stadium.

They couldn't play in Saarbrücken if they have a game on the same day, which could happen on sundays (in Mannheim this could be the case as well of course, but a Oberliga game is propably easier to cancel than a second division game). That doesn't sound like a good back-up, that's why I'd say Mannheim.

Maybe they could play in Ludwigshafen, but I doubt it's up to modern standards. Mannheim has played their Bundesliga matches there during the 80s.

You wouldn't have any Mannheim fans in the stadium.

They would sure be all around the stadium baiting the FCK fans. I was there for the 1996/97 German Supercup match between BVB and FCK and the Waldhof fans were certainly out there making trouble with both sets of fans and the ones in the stadium cheered loudly for BVB.

I think you overestimate the difficulty of re-scheduling a match. Who says they have to "cancel" any match? You simply move the 2. Liga Sunday match to Monday night. Some fans might not like it, but how many fans actually travel for the Sunday afternoon matches anyhow??

I know I didn't go with FCN fans for Sunday matches unless the place they were playing was within a one or two hour driving distance........

Ah, yes, the good old Waldhof fans... :D. It says a lot about the average Eintracht fan that they are actually considered our friends. Yeah, this could be a problem, especially if there wasn't nuch time for planning.

Heavily depends on the opponent. Shouldn't be such a big problem if they have enough time before the game, but I doubt that Saarbrücken or DSF would be pleased if they discovered some cracks on saturday before the game for example. It's still Saarbrücken's stadium (well, I don't know who owns it actually, but Saarbrücken will have definitely have the right to play there even if they don't own the stadium).

Ludwigshafen would be by far the easiest solution, if the DFL allows them to play there (as a temporary solution this might be possible).

Would the replacement stadium (if it is necessary) have to be in the "local" area? Would it be possible to host the games in, for example, Borussia Park or the LTU-Arena?

My guess would be that this would be an absolute last resort due to accomadation concerns, politics etc. but if the local stadiums aren't up to FIFA standards, who knows?

I don't think season ticket holders would be pleased if they had to travel to Mönchengladbach.

FIFA standards don't matter (we're not talking about the WC, but about Bundesliga games). And the DFL can allow Kaiserslautern to play in Ludwigshafen. Paderborn, for example, is temporary allowed to play in a stadium that doesn't fullfill the neccessary requirements.

I am so pissed!
I honestly just hope the whole roof just collapses and the stadium has to be torn down!
Its time for some heads to roll in Kaiserslautern... The constructioncompany is doing great...
Im just thinking about last season when that part came out of the roof and hit a securityman on the field...

And now who has time to go to a game a t 6pm on a wednesday? Some of us have to work for a living... the dfl doesnt really seem to realize that...
At least the DB is fair enough to allow returnals of the train-tickets! I really didnt expect that, but its a nice move!

greetz,
a pissed off and unfortunately not drunk at all DocÄppler

From my friend Eric Lindon on his FCK List........

FCK has gotten clearance for their stadium. The necessary repairs were made, and reviewed by a planning engineer. So they do not have to move to another stadium!

There will also be a second, unpartial review this week to ensure there are absolutely no problems. Let's hope they find nothing...
