Anyone travelling to another country to watch the WC? Especially in Europe. I'm thinking of going to France or Spain, but wanted to get opinions from the BS folks.
Thanks

I will give you a hot advice.
Keep it quiet, though.

Same time zone, atmosphere, no German price gouging among other things.

When we were little, before all the games were on US TV, my family used to plan vacations during the World Cup so we could watch the games.
Now it is on U.S. tv I don't see the point, either go to Germany or stay home. Though I bet a beach resort in Mexico would be fun.

Holland will go kind of crazy, especially marketing wise. Everything will be orange, (orange pudding, orange toiletpaper, etc.) Streets, bars, restaurants will al be decoreated orange (drives me completely nuts), but it's only for a few weeks.

Why would you travel to another country for the World Cup?Since you ask:
I moved to the US in 2002, just before the WC. 2002 was pretty much the first world cup I watched entirely by myself. After 3 years, Me and my wife (through me) are the only two people I know here (and I interact with a lot of people every day), who know there's a world cup in Germany in 2006.
I used to live in a country where people eat, sweat and dream football; people have TV receivers at the oddest places during the tournament; companies stop working to watch world cup games.
I also haven't seen my parents or siblings, who live in that country, in almost 4 years.
I hope those are good enough reasons, because I am seriously thinking of traveling to my homeland next summer, for about a month. :)

Original question is it worth going to another country in Europe to watch WC06 when you don't have tickets and accomodations in Germany?
I might be traveling through London during the semifinals on business and wondered if local stadiums have watch parties if some of their players are still left in the semifinal round or if England is still around (ie - ManU player in cup so they open up Old Trafford to all ManU fans or England for that matter to watch on jumbotron).....do European ciities have public viewiing areas of these games so i can still see the matches before reuturning home?

I don't know if its worth a special trip, but it could be fun.
I was in Europe on business during the last two European championships, and it was a lot of fun. Was in Italy when they lost the final in 2000. Was in Germany in 2004 and even though I was not there when they were still playing, it was still fun to go out and watch the games.
This year I will be in Prauge in June. I hope to get over to Germany for a match, but even if I don't I look forward to watching in bars or town squares.
I can see where it would be more fun to be in Europe than the states during the world cup.
