Chelsea given Ballack opportunity
Premiership leaders Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign midfielder Michael Ballack by Bayern Munich.
Blues chief executive Peter Kenyon said that the club had been approached about buying the 29-year-old, who will be out of contract at the end of the season.
And Spanish giants Real Madrid have also been given permission to negotiate with the German international.
"Ballack has been offered to Chelsea and Real Madrid," said Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
"I have a good friendship with Florentino Perez of Real Madrid and with Peter Kenyon of Chelsea, and both have informed me of everything that has happened."
Real Madrid's Zinedine Zidane wants Ballack to join his team even though it would mean increased competition for him.
"If there is someone with the qualities for Real Madrid, then that is Ballack," Zidane told German newspaper Bild.
"I won't give up my place that easily, but we would welcome him with open arms. He is in great form this season."

If there's ANY truth to this (re:Chelsea), my avatar is going to become a "self-portrait"!
BTW, why the hell would anyone want to go to Chelsea or Real Madrid if Bayern Munich agree to the terms. Please hear me out.
As I've stated before, there has to be a point where players get discouraged from joining a tallented club that's this unstable. Time to add to the 'I thought I was good enough' list. Hmmm....SWP, Joe Cole (back on the list), Duff, Essien, Crespo, etc. must be pleased with this (as well as all the other crap they hear on a daily basis, fact or fiction) that poses a threat to their playing time. The same can be said about Real Madrid (ask Michael Owen), but I'll just use Chelsea for this post (because I hate them so!).
I'm sure all the players I listed feel they're good enough to play almost every game on other big clubs. You think Arsenal would give SWP 5 starts up to now if he came to us? Would the numbers be worse for anyone else on the club if Robben were healthy? If nothing stops Chelsea from getting another player at any position, does it really matter how well Crespo, Drogba or Gudjohnsen play if a Shevchenko or Adriano are attainable (to Chelsea, who isn't)?
I know Ballack doesn't play the same style/position most of the players I listed play, but then again I don't think Ballack will be the player that will finalize the structure that Mourwiner has envisioned as his 'ideal' club. And with Ballack/Lampard/Essien (+ anyone else they're linked to), how do you distribute time to players who feel they deserve the bulk of it? Is Ballack better than Essien? If so, when does Essien expect to play?
Maybe players should start looking elsewhere to find a big club that is good enough to compete at the highest level, but not too big that they can become expendable overnight. Maybe Ballack should consider staying at Bayern Munich if he wants to be sure to add to his legacy, rather than taint it.
P.S. Sorry for the rant (I f*kn '8' Chelski!)

Looks like that report was true but, Chelsea isn't interested.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has ruled out a move for the man once lined up to replaced Keane at Manchester United, Bayern Munich playmaker Michael Ballack. (Daily Mirror)
Sorry, I do enjoy my rumours though... :D

To be honest, Ballack has stated a few times that he like Matheus and Klinsmann would like to experience other challenges/leagues and that's why he's looking at the possibility of not playing at Bayern after this year. Certainly sucks that they probably won't get anything for him (though its not like they were the ones who brought him up), but I do believe he wants a new challenge.
I wouldn't really see Chelsea as a challenge though, unless the challenge is to play more than 35 games and your name not be Cech, Terry or Lampard. I'd rather see him at United than Chelsea, for his own good, but really, if he's not signing for the Arse, I'd rather not see him period.

This should be changed to "Bayern Munich have offered Chelsea the chance to bid against themselves, and Bayern Munich have decided that Chelsea sometimes have more money than brains. Bayern Munich's management has also stated 'We're not stupid. Chelsea will probably give us an extra 10 million Euros just to make ManU even more pissed off than usual. Real Madrid would be able to give us the second largest price, so we're going to make a bundle regardless'."
In other news, ManU fans all across the globe have begun purchasing Roman Abramovich voodoo dolls with needles pre-placed in the genitals area.

Is there any reason why we are not looking at Ballack? It seems to me he is good player. He plays in the midfeild and we could use one more there. Sure this would cut into Cesc, Gilberto, or Flamini's playing time but if Cesc of Gilberto get a realtive serious injury then we can all kiss this season goodbye and just wait for the next one. We need cover in the middle of the park. The only downside i see is that he is 29 which is a bit old. But he could be a free player that could provide cover and see out his career in style while flamini and cesc grow and mature. Plus this would probably be welcome by a couple of the older players who would like to see some experience brought into the side.

There was talk that we were interested and that he was interested but I think the fact that those rumours dried up pretty quickly indicates that we are not one of his top choices and we don't see him as a focus.
I think that cost may also be a big factor. Ballack is good (God knows I was championing signing him if we have any interest in building up midfield) but given the uncertainties up front (Henry sopa opera) and in the back (Cole soap opera and injury bug on the left side) I think our priorities should be elsewhere.
Granted were Cole committed and healthy and Henry talking endlessly about his loyalty for Arsenal and his desire to never play a game elsewhere, I think Ballack might me someone to look at. But for the kind of money we will need to spend to sign him, we can do much better in other areas of the team.

From what I have seen, Essien has been one of Chelski's best performers this season and Mourinho has singled him out for praise a couple of times.
Honestly, I think Chelski knew we (Man U) wanted Ballack and decided to step in, show interest, and raise the price on him until we couldn't afford him.

Firstly, this is a case of Ballack despertely whoring himself to Chelsea than a case of Chelsea wanting him. Why the hell would Chelsea want Ballack when they have Lampard? If Ballack came, he would be playing in the Carling cup!
But secondly, as to why we are not interested in Ballack there are three reasons. One, he is 29 yrs old and he wouldn't have much left in him. Two, Wenger are trying to groom Cesc and wouldn't want anyone blocking him. But most importantly, Ballack is seeking for glory in one of the big clubs like Madrid and Chelsea and wouldn't be interested in signing for us.

While some folks say there was a brief flirtation, if you look in any of the transfer-rumor-type threads from the past 6 months you'll see plenty of links to stories where he states he wants to leave BM and make truckloads of cash on a Bosman free. He was never a viable option because his wages would be well beyond our pay structure.

By the way math boy, as far as your stupid signature:
if Man Utd. * Chelsea = 1-0
and Blackburn * Man Utd. = 2-1
and Arsenal * Blackburn = 3-0
Then Arsenal * Chelsea = 6-1
Stick with crazy, you're better at that than math.

Moron, all fixed numbers are constants. Variables have to be dependent and changing. I don't recall having used any algebraic vairables nor did you.
