Which players are considered the 10 Greatest Brazilian players in history?

The obvious ones were Pele, Zico and may be Ronaldo.

how about Romario, Jairzinho and Riverlino?

Socrates, for his name alone.

I honestly think that some other players should be considered - besides the obvious older generation that paved the way for the newst generation.

Rivaldo for one, when you look at the past 5 years, has in fact been a remarkable player. Brazil would not have even qualified had he not been such a consistent threat and as reliable. There is also an article on this:

While Ronaldo won player of the year, I do think that Rivaldo, despite his being a jerk, was the MVP. And he is just so multi-dimensional a player, he's nearly impossible to stop.

You forgot to mention the player that many Brazilians consider to be the most skilled player ever: Garrincha (Manuel Francisco dos Santos). Garrincha means "songbird".

My 10 (in no particular order after Pele and Garrincha)

Pele
Garrincha
Zizinho
Domingos da Guia
Zico
Leonidas da Silva
Romario
Didi
Rivelino
Rivaldo

If Ronaldo plays 3 healthy seasons up to his standards, he displaces one of the guys above (either Rivelino or Rivaldo).

All the candidates for the top 10 are in the previous posts but after placing Pele' as #1 the rest are about equal though Romario and Ronaldo may edge the others - depending on how you like your football.

Thanks guys.... I know very little about Brazilian soccer players beyond the 1980's.

I actually never heard of some of the names mentioned. For example, Domingos da Guia and Leonidas da Silva.

Top 10 is a tough thing to do especially in Brazil. There are about 100 players that can be in the top 10.

- Falcao
- Zico
- Socrates
- Junior (Flamengo)
- Ronaldo
- Ronaldinho Gaucho
- Dunga

- Rivaldo

Top 10 from 1979 to now that you might not know:

- Careca
- Mauro Galvao
- Renato Gaucho (Portaluppi)
- Tita
- Eder
- Batista
- Mario Sergio
- Oscar
- Muller
- Zenon

more

- Pita

Being named after him Rivilino is 2nd on my list, below Pele of course however I can't believe no one has mentioned Ronaldhino. He is one of the best these days and better than those of old. 2 time footballer of the year.

Do you read posts? He said from 1979 and onward. Also, if you look at that date of these posts they are from 2003, right when Ronaldinho started to develop into the star he is now.

Sorry to tell you, but you got misnamed.
The player's name is Rivelino.

:D

ps: The other one is Ronaldinho

My top ten:

Pelé
Garrincha
Zico
Romário
Leônidas da Silva
Ronaldo
Didi
Rivelino
Rivaldo
Nilton Santos

In a few years I think this list will change significantly. Ronaldinho will easily be on it and when it's all said and done I think he will be in the top 3. Ronaldo can also move into my top 3 depending on his performance in Germany 2006. When it's all said and done I think Kaká will be on the list as well. Roberto Carlos also deserves a mention. I considered putting him on the list instead of Nilton but in the end I chose to pay homage to the man who was one of the first true wing-backs in football history. He was also a very good centre-back in the later stages of his career. IMO, however, Roberto Carlos has been the better player and the best wing-back I've ever seen. I think his contributions to the Seleção and his career as a whole are sometimes overlooked by some and I don't understand why. Looking back at the player he was in his prime and the player he still is today, I sometimes wonder if we will ever see a player like him again.

I can't name the top 10... too hard and difficult to judge with the exception of maybe the top 5 names. I can name a starting 11, however. Here it is:

------------------------Gilmar-----------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
--------------L. Perreira--------Antonio D.G.----------------
-D.Santos---------------------------------------N.Santos--
------------------------ Falcão -----------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------
----------------Zizinho-------------Didi---------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------
----Garrincha-----------------------------Canhoteiro-------
---------------------------Pelé------------------------------

I dont think there is way to agree here. But for those of us who watched the old school there are a few players that cant be left out of the bests. Pele, Garrincha and Didi for sure because they could do things that nobody else could. Pele for his unique intelligence in the field (too bad was just on the field), Garrincha for passing the defence whenever he wanted, and Didi acquaired a level of awareness in the midfield that was only toped by his classy style. Im only sorry that those of my age including me will be dead in a few decades (being generous), and the video records of those players are not enough, and people will start saying that they were overrated and could not have been so great if they were playing today. There are tons of players to list, but those 3 i'll say to you that would play today for sure and make you cry with their magic.
