There is a FIFA organizational meeting on Dec 6, I believe they will be deciding on Seeds and Pots (sounds interesting) during that meeting.

There will be an announcement of the procedure for the draw (the announcement should contain the seeds and pot designations) on Tuesday Dec 6 (during the 7am US Eastern Time Press Conference).

The draw is on Friday Dec 9 (with the broadcast of the actual draw starting at 2:30pm Eastern).

Cool. Good find, tab5g.

I don't know if this will raise or lower my anxiety in the days before the draw.

Hey all you statisticians, will knowing the seeds and the pot designations (ha ha ha, etc.) in advance improve the accuracy of mock draws to a significant degree?

Also, our odds of going into a Group of Death decrease if Mexico is not a seed, correct? Because it's one more pot we could be drawn into?

knowing the draw procedures on Dec 6 will give those mock drawers some actual hard/published facts on which to base their scenarios. currently, not knowing the seeds and pot alignments, there are 2-4 reasonable ways things can be set up for a mock draw.

a lot does depend on who the 8 seeds are and how the 3 pots outside of the seeds are established. those questions will be answered on Tuesday. The US will know on Dec 6 which pot they are in, and therefore will be able to say with certainty who (beyond Mex, CR and T&T) will not be in their drawn group of four.

If Mexico (or the US) is not seeded and the seeds are BRA, ARG, and 6 UEFA nations, then I think it makes sense to place into one pot the 4 Concacaf and the 4 Asian teams. In that scenario the US would know that they would be in a group with one of the seeds, a non-seeded team from UEFA and one from the pot of AUS, PAR, ECU, and the 5 African sides.

Again, it is just speculation until we see the seeds and pot designations, which will be published (should Fifa stay on schedule) on Dec 6.
