shite? He looked good in the Reading game. And geez he's only what, twenty. Young players go through slumps, it's common for every one of them, especially in the premiership. God knows Henry had his at Monaco but Wenger stuck by him and now look what's come of it.
Nothing wrong with buying a solid back up but don't count the kid out just yet.

Giving up on Reyes is beyond premature and Pires will get back to form. Love how we can still find areas for complaint while playing in ever improving form.

 Pedersen & N'zogbia are both proving class, but maybe you don't think they could step it up a level - your opinion really. But please tell me the only reason you wouldn't buy Vicente is because he would cost a bomb, and probably more than Arsenal can afford... please.

He looked good over the weekend as well, when he had to cover Cygan's ass the whole game. Honestly, I don't think he's played badly. It's just that most of the goals right now are flowing through the forwards. He's a streaky scorer who needs confidence, like Wenger said after last night. Give him time and he'll get back in form.
And was this question important enough that had to post the same thread three times?

Why are there 3 threads on this?
Keep him. I think he's just hitting a rough patch. He's young, we know he's capable, so just let it wait out. Plus isn't he playing out of position anyway?

Reyes is playing pretty well, he just isn't scoring, but playing on the wing, he's not giong to be banging them in anyway. He's also working very hard, possilbly our hardest working player. Leave him alone.

Take out a huge insurance policy than have him killed. But make it seem like an accident. Or just make him our starting LM.

Agreed,
Reyes yesterday worked really hard. Again against Blackburn he was coming back, tackling and defending and then attacking quickly. In the past 6 weeks he seems to of really improved as the whole team has. His long balls against Thun were very good and could of led to a couple of goals. We re playing well as a team, confidence is up. However much everyone is having a go at this or that player, in the last 16 games since we have played a lot better we have
W13 D2 L1 in all competitions. That is actually pretty good going. We keep that record up from now until the end of the season we're going to win something.

The only criticism I have of Reyes is that he holds theball too long. He makes it easy for defenders to tackle him because of it. He needs to play more one-touch stuff which will help the team by keeping the ball moving and it will allow him to get into space behind the full-back. If someone could coach him to play more of an Overmars type of game (and he has much more dribbling talent than Overmars ever did), then I think he'd be devastating with his pace and shooting ability. His workrate is prodigious and maybe he'll only show his best form when not constantly having to cover Cygan once Cole comes back.

Do you really think so? Overmars was my idol, and i haven't seen much from Reyes that bears comparison. I like Reyes, and i think he's been a decent player for Arsenal, not a flop, but not a revelation either. When we bought him, i figured that we'd keep him two years then sell him off to Real for a fortune. At this point, we'd do well to get our money back. But i'd still rather see him in the starting lineup than Pires.

Agreed. He's too predictable. It's like he just stands there with the ball and thinks any sudden movement with the ball will have the defender going the opposite way. Still, you heard the crowd chanting "Jose Antonio" on Saturday so he must be doing something right.

Overmars didn't really dribble past players as such, he just pushed the ball up the field and burned them off with his incredible pace for the most part or lay it off and spin in behind the full-back for the return pass and the defender never had a chance of catching him if the ball came back. I'm not saying he wasn't a good player, he was great while he was at Highbury. My point is that Reyes could do that too if he thought about it a bit more, but he has more in his locker natural talent wise than Overmars.

Overmars was awesome, but you're right, it wasn't alot of trickery, just him blowing by defenders, and i do love to see that.

Oh believe me, there wasn't a much finer sight than him leaving the opposition defence for dead and smashing the ball home. One particular instance of it when I was at Old Trafford once had me going hysterical ;). It obviously helped having Bergkamp at the top of his game paying him in, when Overmars made those runs in behind the full-back he just knew the ball was going to get to him.

He came to a league that wasn't as used to pace as it probably is now, and being probably the quickest guy I've seen over 10 yards, he did destroy some defenses. His defending wasn't the best though...

Absolutely correct. From memory I recall hearing overmars could run 100m in olympic qualifying time (10.something seconds). Scoring a goal every 3 games wasn't too bad either but AW sold him at the right time given his knees.
As for Reyes put him on the left wing & give him game time - he is NOT a striker. If Pires can play on the right as well as he has in the last couple of games it might mean more game time for reyes which can only help his development. though freddie is not too far off full fitness.

Professional football is about being effective though. Beating two players, but losing the ball because you try to beat the third isn't effective. Bursting in behind the full-back and laying the ball across the box for the onrushing attackers to knock in is. That's why I made the comparison with Overmars, he didn't really go on jinking runs where he beat five players and finished, but he could get into positions from where he scored himself or set up one of his team-mates for a tap-in so often that he was a really effective player.
