who is the god of argentina right now?

currently, I think it should be Hernan Creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeespo

This guy is the top striker in the world if we want to talk about a multifunctional striker. This guy is extremely good in heading, shooting, accuracy, strength. Basically extremely powerful in air and also on the ground. Can use both foot comfortable. Oh my god, hope the argentina coach will start with this guy every game in the upcoming world cup. That guy should have started Crespo and Batigo at the same time in 2002 but we didn't see that unfortunately.

If we are talking of a pure striker, I would say Crespo. However, I think you are going way off describing him as the best world striker. He is a decent striker, but I would say not a lethal weapon like an Adriano, Ronaldo or a Rooney. I feel we still miss a guy like that in our team. We have great play makers with Riquelme, Tevez, Messi, etc... but a killer like the abovementioned guys would be invaluable.

crespo alongside tevez/messi is a damn good partnership, comparable to almost any other side. one is the master goal-poacher, the other a more creative second striker that can also score goals. problems only arise if crespo gets injured (he seems to be always injured). neither cruz, delgado, figueroa will be good enough when it comes to the crunch in the world cup. argentina needs another 'number 9' who can cover for crespo. i don't see that player at the moment. i hope i'm wrong. or...

i hope crespo stays fit!

Yes, Crespo is the best we got, but imagine if we had a penalty area striker of the caliber of Batistuta at his prime, to go along with today's talented midfielders and withdrawn forwards.

batistuta was the best striker on the planet for a while. just a shame he never dominated a world cup.

i have never seen this 17 year old at indepiendente, aguero. i wonder if he is more of a traditional centre-forward, or a withdrawn striker. if he is the former, maybe pekerman should think about taking him to germany as cover for crespo. more than likely however he is too young.

I think as it is, Argentina needs two target men: either a Crespo-Tevez; Crespo-Cruz, Cruz-Tevez or why not Saviola, Marioni. A couple of players that can provide the passes to these guys could be a combination of Riquelme- Messi; Riquelme Aimar; Aimar-Messi (and I'm pushing it too much). or a trident midfield with 2 receivers
Midfield Aimar-Riquelme-Messi and targets Crespo-Tevez or combination of other attackers.

Crespo is good but I don't think he is as important as a Rooney, Adriano or Ronaldo. Crespo is more like an Schvechenko. God I miss batigol in his best version.

I think Crespo is the best we got aswell. It seems like the only thing that is keeping him back is injuries.
He is great in the air, and he has a great finish, and thats what Argentina need, they need someone to put the ball in the back of the net....

Did you guys see his last two goals he scored with Chelsea?

I still think Farias should be given a chance. He's a second coming of Crespo, but he's faster and better with his head, and he rushes into the area like a striker should. Of course, there are other alternatives, like Palacio, Castroman and Pavone, but Farias is my favourite.

Hot Damn that Falcao isn't Argentine :(

i have never heard of pavone and marioni, but if they are both playing in argentina, neither of them seems to be on the list of pekerman's (unconfirmed?) argentine-based squad for the next friendly.

Pavone hasn't done well this season, but he got 14 goals in the last one, and Marioni I think is playing in Mexico. A few other players that should get a chance are Palacio, Peirone and Lavezzi.

couple of replies:
you all think crespo is soooo good??? I don't know how. He is better than decent, I'd say pretty good, very good? Probably, but he is too inconsistent for me to say this statement with conviction. Certainly he is not exceptional or in highest echelon of strikers: Eto'o, Ronaldo, Adriano...
In my opinion, he is a bit too slow. He has heart, when he's out there you can see he's fighting for every ball, but he's lost some of quickness over the years. He seems to be in the right place at the right time, which is an important part of being a good forward, but he doesn't create opportunities with his quickness, strength or skill - that's the other thing he's not incredibly skillfull.
Despite all this, I still think he should be on the team, along with Cruz, Tevez.

Marioni - plays on Pumas, they're playing Velez tomorrow in Copa Sudamericana. a good player, not for the national team in my opinon
Farias - When he got called for the recent qualifier, I cannot fathom why, he was a disaster! With River he is just starting to play well with Falcao, who injured so who knows how he will do now. His glory days finished with Estudiantes.

You know, given Batigol's poor record of scoring against good teams, Crespo's actually not that far off. We'll see what he does this year, since he was foolishly playing second fiddle to a clearly long past it Batistuta at Japorea.
For Argentina's setup, he's perfect. He has an excellent touch for deeper build ups and converts chances. Your current side is not built to pump balls into the box anyway.

Bruno Marioni just scored 2 goals against Velez Sarsfield today, he also scored 2 goals two games before that.

Sorry, I take it back, Marioni scored 3 goals against Velez, that's better than Aguero.

there is a guy playing for wolfsburg in germany, the same club as d'alessandro, quiroga, and another argentine whom i've never heard of called menseguez. his name is klimowicz. i know nothing about him other than he is scoring goals in the bundesliga.

Either Messi or Crespo.
