I've always wanted to know rivals of a German team... (don't post Bayern just because they're the best team)

For Hertha, I can only think of one really, Schalke. Union Berlin would be one if they were in the 1. Bundesliga, but since they're not, we're actually quite cozy.

Recently when we played Werder I kinda missed not having a real derby because the Werder game is the closet thing we have to a derby and there's just not much hate involved, I even kinda like Werder.

I mean it's great to see them not doing well (compared to the greatest club in world, 96) but I'd love to play them from time to time.

Theres no one within a friggin 100 mile radius...too bad too.

A few years ago, when Union was toiling in Zwei Bundesliga, I felt they had a good chance of going to die Bundesliga. But now, the closest team to Hertha in Berlin is Hertha Amateurs!! :eek:

gladbach is definatly up there. leverkusen is the more publisized one. my personal oppinion would be gladbach and schalke.

I'm jelous at the Ruhrpott-Clubs. Hamburg has Bremen, Mainz has Frankfurt and K'lautern, Nürnberg has Bayern, nobody hates us, it's sooo sad, isn't?

I can't wait until we play Rot-Weiß Braunschweig again - it's payback time baby! The only team from Braunschweig that ever finished a season above us... like 102 years ago or something like this... Or Leu... has been awhile since they've been in the second division, but maybe they make a comeback in 10 years.

But who am I kidding... there can be only one true rival... Riddagshausen!

Especially since I was there two weeks ago I wouldnt really consider Mainz-Frankfurt a real Derby anymore...
I mean, yeah I hate them, but not because of a rivalry, simply because they are so horribly overhyped that its not even funny... but thats another topic...
The "Rivalry" between Mainz and Frankfurt has no tradition what so ever, there have only been some 8 games...
There really are many other clubs where the felt rivalry is much bigger, such as Kaiserslautern, OFC (unfortunately we have only plaied them once in the last 19 years or so) Cologne, Darmstadt and also even Hannover...
And I know that many other Eintrachtfans feel the same way...

Union Berlin - BFC Dynamo is the only rivally we have. No other team matters. When playing the 2. Division with BFC in the 4th, the supporters still chanted against BFC. When we played them this year, they had to call out 6,000 police officers for a 4th division game.

Most Union fans are ambivilant of or even also fans of Hertha. There are no hard feelings there.

The real HSV, Hannover 96 is no rival.

It´s a normal north derby like the ones with Wolfsburg
or Rostock (when they were in BL).

HSV, Schalke and Bayern are the real rivals.

I can understand it.
Spoke with a Hannover fan and he was totally p*ssed,
that Mainz qualified for UEFA-cup (fair play) unless
Hannover was the team with the least cards.

Our biggest rivals would be:

- Karlsruhe, their the biggest as they are the only other BW team to have a really strong Bundesliga tradition. If they make it up this season, then next year you guys will see what i'm talking about.

- Stuttgarter Kickers, obviously because they are city rivals, but our first teams haven't played in a while. Our Amateuren play them though and then the amateuren stadium and kickers stadium are always sold out and there's a fair bit of trouble.

- Bayern, not only because everyone hates them, but also because they are the most powerful team of the SOUTH... so this is our biggest first league rival.

- Freiburg, not as big a rivalry, but nonetheless strong dislike between the fans. I think it is more the Freiburg fans who consider this a big derby.


Our friend teams in the BL are :
- Mainz 05, i believe the friendship has always been there and since Mainz played their first Buli game against us, that strengthened the friendship. Having said that, i personally don't really like 'em.

- Energie Cottbus. I wouldn't be able to tell you why though.
