What was the deal with that?

I was dozing and just saw a piece of it, with Max and some "rocker" picking balls out of a tub (one of which was San Marino (???))...

Then afterwards they were actually listing all the groups... bizarre...

I know the draw's not till dec. 9, and they haven't even decided the seeds yet, have they?

More "entertainment" from our friends at FSC...

:)

Max said he used the 2001 draw formula to make his group predictions. And I hope his predictions are true, I'd love to see US-Portugal and Korea-Italy face-off. But who the hell was that rocker guy?

I thought maybe it was Nick Webster with a bad wig...

The "draw" had the US in a group with Spain, Portugal, and Tunisia.

I think the other guy was from a band called the Beefeaters.

that segment marked an all time low in the short existence of FSC/FSWR.

I appreciated Michelle and JStL constantly saying something to the effect of, "Bretos is going to suck tonight. We warned you, so don't blame us."

Max must have some serious blackmail on someone to get away with the shite he turns in week after week. That, or he works really cheap.

Bretos had me so angry I was yelling at the TV. I understand the excitement as the draw nears, but doing a mock draw should require some research and at least a little nod towards history. When he was explaining the seeds, he had no valid basis for who he chose for that pot. I know we won't know the deal with the seeds till like 48 hours before the draw, but he could have at least used the '02 formula. If i remember correctly he had Portugal and Holland as seeds which completely contrast with almost any prediction of the seeds based on the formula used in the last couple cups.

He probably does work pretty cheaply, or at least, the LA Galaxy really must like his work.

Well, then the formulas used in the last couple of cups is seriously flawed. Giving Portugal and Holland seeds makes more sense to me than giving one to Spain who struggled in qualifying and Euro 2004.

Seriously. He's got to have a frat brother in the marketing dept., or he's blowing someone.
His work is criminal.

C'mon guys.

We all know that FSW Report has to scramble just to get good material to fill 20 minutes each night.

In order to stretch the show to 44 minutes to satisfy the 35% Canadian content quota, FSW Report has to fill the other 24 minutes with assorted "entertainment", namely Bobby McMahon (Mondays and Fridays), Goals of the Week (Tuesdays), Saves of the Week (Wednesdays), Bretos (Thursdays), and Match of the Day extended highlights (Saturdays and Sundays).

For a "readers digest" alternative, check out GolTV News, which has ZERO talking heads appearing on air and airs more highlights in 22 minutes than FSW Report in 44 minutes.

Ok, so let me see if I understand you correctly...

You think it's completely acceptable to let Max have 5 min on the network's flagship highlight and analysis show?

Normally I'd agree with you, it's *only* 5 min after all, but not with Max.
The "ends" does not justify the "means" in this case.

The real problem I have is that he's unprofessional on every level. From his scripts to the production of his serments, his commentary, the attitude, etc...
I see reels from kids who are producing segements like this a small local affiliates, and when they ask what I think of their work I tell them "good idea, bad execution" and encourage them to keep trying if they want to move up the food chain.
The message is: nobody likes to see on-air talent who substitute bravado for good content.
The best guys and gals have the latter, which justifies the former.
Not Max.

Maybe Max needs to work with a producer who will make him actually think about what he is doing and how it looks to his audience.

That reminds me.
Who the heck is in charge of signing off his segements?
IMHO they aren't doing their job because Max delivers bad segements week after week.
Does he ever consider his audience? Does he think about who he's writing for?
Not from what I can tell.
He's just there to sell you "The Max" with all the subtlety of selling you a pre-owned Kia while telling you nothing that you need to know.

What to fill that 5 min. with?
They'd be better off running a segement from Fox Soccer USA as a teaser for that week's episode or giving Bobby an in-depth segement.
The truth is that there iis alot they could fill that 5 min. with that would be more informative and entertaining.

If Max was Canadian, would that help?

Canada can have him.

BTW - all apologies for the grammatical/spelling errors.
I was in the Dallas/FW terminal, a little tired from a couple of long days, and on an intermittent web connection.
Other than that I stand by my post, and it wouldn't make a difference if Max was Canadian. He'd still be a tool.
:D
