SkySports just reported that it looks like the Belfast Boy may not make it through the night. His physicians have said there's nothing more can be done.

May he part in peace and his family take great pride in his accomplishments.

I grew up watching him play, he was nothing short of amazing. A total waste of talent.

More about George Best
http://www.ifhof.com/hof/best.asp

In those six magical seasons with United, he scored 115 goals in 290 games - six of them in one game! He won two League Championships, the European Cup and was voted European Football of the Year. Pele named him as his favourite player, which was remarkable considering Best's international career with Northern Ireland never allowed him the opportunity of appearing in the World Cup finals.

Such is the nature of addiction. There is no rhyme or reason, there is only craving...endless craving.

R.I.P. The world has lost a good friend and a brilliant footballer.

Best didn't make it through the night, amazing really that he made it to a fairly ripe old age of 59. I was never fortunate enough to see him play. My dad told me he watched him play once, for a a lowly non-league club called Dunstable, so far downhill had he travelled by that time. Footballing brilliance has been laid to rest.

One of George's greatest goals (1981) as a member of the NASL San Jose Earthquakes, which is also considered one of the greatest goals in NASL history and one that I had the good fortune to be a live witness of, can be viewed from here (http://eteamz.active.com/naslearthquakes/videos/GBest81.mpg) (thanks to gilmoreaz for preserving that footage).

Rest in peace, George. :(

Great stuff, thanks for the link.

I'm glad I could help. :)

The fact that I saw in Spartan Stadium when George scored that goal further proves that I'm old. :(

Tomorrow's funeral is sure to be the largest ever in Northern Ireland.

Any bigsoccer posters going to be there to pay final respects?
