Bocas of the PAST? Are you aware that Boca is the CURRENT Sudamericana Cup champion? If you really consider the team from a year ago a team from the past, well be my guest.

What i mean is in comparison to the BOca teams coached by Vianchi this team does not compare, they dont even come close to me, and yes im aware they are the current defending champions of the sudamericana but their level has droped significantly since that title and the sudamericana has become now a tougher cup to win then the past sudamericanas with the addition of the mexican clubs amongst others....

I don't know how the request not to play the anthem of a country that's not yours is disrespectful to anyone. And I know why they did it, they didn't want their anthem to be booed, and believe me, it was going to happen, they just didn't want to put their national song, and themselves, through that.

reason is I say this is because the Argentine announcers on Foxsports stated that the Argentine anthem was coming up right after the mexican anthem during the Velez match and then it was never played !!! and it was like they just went into shock mode and silence mode for a while, thats why i thaught it would have been disrespectful and I really dont believe that just for fans booing the anthem is the reason why they decided not to play it, im sure there is more than that behind this....

Such as?

Don't tell me, not playing the Argentine anthem is an evil plot by Conmebol to favor Boca... somehow.

Boca took a giant step towards winning the Argentine title today. If they manage to win it, there will be much less pressure next Sunday against Pumas, which can only be a good thing for Boca. On the other hand, if they choke on Wednesday and fail to win the title, then the fan pressure next Sunday will be overwhelming and it could benefit the Mexican club.

I watched dthe game today , I was hopijng Boca would lose today, but they managed the 2-0 win . D you have any updates with the violence of Gimnasia and Newells at half time , Argeintesoccerfan ?? . Apparently after half time the 2 games werent being played simulataneously .

Don't WANT TO HIJACK THE THREAD , this is about Copa Suamericana..

But in a way is important what Boca does i nthe league b/c it can help or hurt Pumas when they play on Sunday .

Any updates if Pumas will schedule any trnaing and friendly games to keep the rhtymn .......

Yeah, some morons from Gimnasia's barra brava tried to intimidate the players of Newells at halftime by harassing them in the dressing room, and so the match in La Plata was suspended for a few minutes, for security reasons. The barra bravas are a scourge in our football. I guess it favored Gimnasia, because they finished the match later than Boca did. But fortunately for Boca it didn't matter. Anyway, sorry guys for straying off topic, but I wanted to answer his question.

As far as Boca winning the local title, I think it would make a huge difference on how they approach the match against Pumas. If they win the local title, the match Sunday will be like a huge party, no pressure at all. Maybe it can backfire if they are not as desperate to win, but my guess is it will favor Boca because they will play with confidence.

On the other hand, if they choke on Wednesday and lose the title, there will be a lot of pressure on Sunday on the players to save the season by at least winning Sudamericana, and maybe they will underperform. Especially I can see them getting desperate if they get behind in the score. Right now the way they handled Independiente, it looks like they're playing on all cylinders, but if they have trouble against Olimpo, I can see them having trouble also against Pumas.

When is Pumas going to Buenos Aires? That's the other thing which could have an impact on the game. If Boca wins the local title they will be all over the news and all over the city. Buenos Aires will be a mess, people celebrating on the streets, blue and yellow everywhere. It will be sensory overload. The Pumas players will be sick of hearing about Boca by Sunday. Maybe they can even use it as a motivating tool.

How can I tell you ! when im actually asking a question ??? and I dont just mean you, Id like to know from anyone out there what the real reason behind this is, I know in Copa America they too decided NOT to play any of the participant teams' anthems, which is not the case in the Eurocup or other tournaments out there so im sure there has to be an explanation or a reason for this other than for just fans booing the oposites' national anthem.

Well I know they've been training at CU but as far as any friendlies there will be no time for that since the decisive game against Boca will be this coming up sunday.

Fifa have been talking recently about not playing national anthems at all, not even at internationals. It does seem nowadays that anthem get routinely booed for very little reason, other than it not being your own., so I guess that is why
Velez & Boca decided against it. What do they lose from not playing it?

Incidently when DC United came to CU they played the US national anthem, and it was a most successful booing of an anthem... they had to turn it up half way through! At which point the booing got louder.

hmm what are the odds of them acting properly. If Pumas win, we'll be lucky if one of the players aren't killed.

If Pumas wins you can count on some bad sportsmanship from the Boca team and not just their fans.. I think we all know Boca are the most childish team on this side of the world!
