This match should be VERY INTERESTING!!!

Both teams are coming off big victories last week. 1. FCN winning at Kaiserslautern for new trainer Hans Meyer and an injury-depleted Borussia Dortmund side ran out as 2-0 winners at home over Hertha BSC Berlin.

Despite the fact that going into the match Dortmund is in seventh place with 18 points on the season and 1. FCN are the top team in the relegation zone with exactly half of BVB's point total, I expect this to be a hard-fought match.

1. FCN always give BVB a hard time at the Nuernberg Frankenstadion and right now, to me, it doesn't look as if this coming Saturday will be any different.

In my mind, there are questions both teams will have to answer come Saturday.

For FCN:

1) Was the victory in Kaiserslautern really proof that 1. FCN are performing better for Hans Meyer or was it merely Kaiserslautern finally hitting rock-bottom and 1. FCN being in the right place at the right time?

2) Can FCN score as much against a team with a much better defense than FCK? A defense that's better, but still makes numerous mistakes?

3) Can FCN's defense, tied for third worst in the league, handle Dortmund's hot striker, Ebi Smolarek?

For BVB:

1) Despite the 2-0 victory, quite a few others and I thought the BVB defense wasn't as great as many are giving them credit for. I thought the BVB defense made a number of errors that either Roman Weidenfeller cleaned up with a big save or Hertha forwards wasted the chances with bad shots. Can the BVB defense reduce the number of mistakes they make this Saturday with the return of Christian Woerns?

2) Can Ebi Smolarek keep carrying BVB with his scoring efforts?? I think it's just a matter of time before opposing coaches change their tactics to shut him down and no other BVB player has shown they can step up and carry the scoring load.

Either way, I think we are looking at a BATTLE on Saturday in Nuernberg.

I really believe this match is going to be better than anyone gives it credit for.........

Metzelder and Kehl both out for Saturday? Damn why can't we catch a break? It's hard to believe there are just 4 matches remaining in the first half of the season. We need to pick up every point possible from now until December 17.

Interesting info about the Frankenstadion. Of course some of you here may already know. No alcohol in the stadium and breath tests are administered before entry?

http://www.borussia-dortmund.com/?%E7%86%9C%2Ah%97%84%EC%5Dk%E1%80%9E

From the article:

STADIUM
Frankenstadion
Capacity: 46,780 (incl 7,800 standing)
Away supporters: Sections 29 A and 29 B (stands) in the South Stands. The view is limited due to the low stairs and the tracks around the field.

Sucks to be an away supporter..............

Good news so far, though I doubt this 2-0 halftime lead will be as easily maintained as last week's was. That said, no one has picked up a card and Kehl is still on the field so hopefully his arm isn't troubling him unduly. Oh, and what a moment for young Nuri...

* FC Nürnberg 1-2 Borussia Dortmund *

Odonkor (13)
Sahin (42)
Kießling (88)

Fulltime.

Well, still a nervous finish but it would seem that FCN enjoyed a fair amount of posession and shots on goal, so perhaps a cleansheet would have been misleading. Nevertheless, nice to see some new names on the scoresheet, and special mention must obviously go to Nuri Sahin. A pity perhaps that his first goal in the black & yellow couldn't be at home but given that it turned out to be the winner I'll hardly complain.

Slight mention must be made of Dede's substitution at halftime, hopefully this isn't anything serious as we're short enough as it is. In the meantime we temporarily move into fifth place, though whatever the result in Berlin tomorrow either Hertha or Gladbach will move ahead of us again. That said, it's been a very good week and despite their big win this afternoon I think we can look forward to Hannover's visit next week with a fair degree of confidence.

Thanks to all of you who messaged on the match. I missed it. I'm grateful to see that:

1) We finally won an away match.
2) Someone besides Smolarek scored for us.
3) Those scorers were finally Odonkor and Sahin.
4) We held on to a lead in the final minutes.
5) The team now knows what it feels like to be in the top five if even just for a day.

HEJA BVB!!!!

Great to see Odonkor and Sahin on the scoresheet. Amazing what stringing together two wins in a row can do for your confidence. :)

Really, it's good to be able to joke about this!!! ;)

Only recently had the chance to see some of the match highlights, didn't realise just how special Sahin's goal was. Excellent footwork by Odonkor and then a fantastic turn-and-shoot by the young Turk. Not even old enough to drink and yet already a vital part of one of the Bundesliga's best midfields, what a kid. Not to mention the youngest scorer in German football history, having become the youngest player earlier in the season. And who knows, if he and Rosicky continue to work well together and we're in Europe next season perhaps the Czech player might stick around. I guess it all depends on what exposure he gets during the finals.

While he still didn't manage a goal, it was at least pleasing to see Buckley getting involved during the match. While missing several chances to bury the game is hardly good news, it does at least offer hope that if he can finally put one away, the player we saw at Bielefeld might not be that far from returning.

By the way, well done Keith on all the translation work. God knows it's made a difference, plus it must be nice to be working so directly with the club while at the same time helping our cost cutting/debt reducing efforts. Keep up the good work mate.

everyone here forgot to mention Weidenfeller as he once again saved as from goals for several times

You are right. I think we are just getting too used to his excellence.
