NO it should not have counted. The FIFA rules are quite clear on this one.

In playing youth and high school soccer, I can remember at least three different occasions where this happened, and the ref got it right every time. I thought it was common knowledge that you can't mess with the keeper when he's putting the ball into play. I've even seen guys get booked for just sort of threatening to get in the way during a kick.

Anway, thanks for the video numerista, it was 10 times worse than I thought it would be I can't believe the the Bahrain FA had the gall, temerity, nerve or whatever to file a protest. What a bunch of morons. It's like protesting a baseball game because of ball-strike calls. People will say, "You might as well try", but I disagree - when you are beaten you accept it and move on.

Go look at the rules. Hand to foot is considered one possession.

If vanderven didn't notice the Review until he/she started this topic, then I read the article days before him/her. I just didn't start a topic about it here.

Try reading a rule book. The referee made the correct decision.

(Law XII) is that it is an offence to prevent the keeper from releasing the ball from his hands back into play. It's also an offence to play the ball while the keeper possesses it in his hands (and possession is defined as having as little as one finger on the ball).

The referee could have also called a dangerous play for the high kick near the keeper's head. In effect 2 fouls were committed.

Amen. T&T actually had to accomplish something to earn their spot. They beat some very good teams and hung tough with the US in both of their matches. Bahrain won a grand total of 1 match during world cup qualifying. Shows how crappy the AFC is if a team with one win can almost qualify for the world cup. Bahrain wouldn't even make the hex if they played in concacaf.
