View Full Version : Sound Sync on FSC, GolTV

Sometimes when I watch a broadcast, the sound is not in sync with the action on the screen. Namely you hear balls being kicked and crowd noise before you see it on the TV. Newcastle vs. Wigan on FSC was a game that it was really noticable. I thought it may have had something to do with the proximity of the microphone to the action on the field. Then on the replay Aus vs. Uru it was bad. It was so bad that the post game interview with Aloisi had his lips moving and the wrong words coming out of his mouth. Is this a technical problem with the retransmission, with the signal going halfway around the globe, or is there some science-y explanation involving video and sound that I am missing here?

Thx,

Jay!

I've noticed this many, many times before during FSC EPL broadcasts. I have no idea why it happens.

Incidentally, audio/video sync is a MAJOR problem with HDTV transmissions as well. Over time, it's gotten better as more and more networks and distribution mediums (satellite, cable, etc.) have gotten experience with HDTV but it is still quite annoying when it happens.

Then there are these strange moments (happened most recently during the Man City v. Liverpool match) where some mic is on in some control room and we can hear the people talking (and in this case tapping away on the computer). I don't think this is a FSC problem but a Sky problem because the guy had an English accent. I am constantly amazed by these problems--isn't someone somewhere listening to the broadcast? These problems don't seem to happen during US broadcasts of the NFL or MLB.

It's a little baffling that it sometimes goes on for an entire match.

The last match I watched on FSC was Sunderland-Liverpool, and there was another commentary you could hear in the background besides the regular commentary. Like another broadcaster was in the same room or something.

I'd be suprised if it was Sky. Their broadcasting seems very professional, in my uneducated outside view.
