Can you blame him? That would have been the choice for a 34-year old looking for playing time.
-----Liverpool
-------------Leeds
------------------Man City?
It's way too early for him to take another step down on his career ladder.

Is that the same Liverpool that are a mighty 3 points ahead of City in the league, with the WORST current (6 game) form in the Prem (LLDDDL 3 points from 18) & the same Leeds who are still a point behind City despite having the best current form (LWDWWW 13/18)? OK,I admit that Liverpool have an excellent pedigree and can still (just) be considered as a top European club...but Leeds!!!?
over the Prem years they've done OK but on the history of the clubs they couldn't come close to City.As for Fowler,I'd like to see him partner Anelka, but I'm happy that the City board havn't been held to ransom! £50,000 per week for a player who hasn't been able to prove his fitness for 3 years...it's a lot of money to sit on the bench or in the teatment room & if I was a 1st team player only (!?) earning £20,000 p/w I wouldn't be to chuffed!

Please, Fowler would be a huge steal for a club with the relatively low stature of Man City.

No matter how you look at it, Manchester City is still a club that has been going up and down divisions frequently in recent years. They have no consistency as a Premiership club. Liverpool and Leeds have been up there fighting for CL spots every year recently. Going from Leeds to Man City would definitely be a step down for a player who should be at his peak agewise now. Don't forget that Leeds had an absolutely dreadful start to the season and still they are only a point behind City.

How did all the Liverpool fans like Anelka last year? I didn't get to see any Premiership matches so I didn't see him play.

Fowler should stick it out at Leeds .
I reckon that there will be a squad clearance sale at the the end of the season .the likes of Viduka ,bowyer ,etc.. will be out of the door .There is even talk of kewell being sold.

He's got more than 180 goals....
Not many can top that. Most of those strikes have not come recently, of course. I don't think he'll match his back to back 30 goal seasons of years past (and still the only man to do it other than Shearer) but when fit, he's still a breathtaking finisher, and the best first or second touch finisher I ever saw.

..here's a guy with a prolific career, classic finisher, only 27 years old and nobody starts him?! I know he has his faults and injuries, but that is crazy!! Is ther something about hime that I don't understand on this side of the pond?

Yes...Fowler is prone to injuries, doesn't have the best work ethic, and his non-football related activities (ie drinking, nightclubbing, revelry) could get the better of him in a big city like Manchester (not to mention that there are a few Manure fans just waiting to incite Fowler in the city...a few that is !?!?)
Having said that, Risdale is surely disappointed. He was hoping that the Fowler sale (one of many players up for sale at the club) would ease the club's debt. I think the only person very happy with this outcome is El Tel...always happy to have 5 strikers competing for places on the team (but surely Venables is either going to get the chop this or next season, or he'll just leave on his own to do more broadcasting/side business ventures).
Personally, I would have liked to see the Fowler - Anelka pairing for Man. City, but I guess we won't see it after all...(then again, you never know with football)

Maybe Fowler got an offer from a "better" club??
Ohhhhh the speculation!?!??!
(when does the winter transfer window end?)

It could be another club, but I'm putting my money on Fowler thinking that at least a couple of strikers will be sold in the summer, giving him more starting opportunities...and obviously Leeds is a more desirable club than ManCity.

(when does the winter transfer window end?) Jan 31st.Yhere is a rumour that utd have put an 11th hour bid in,Fowlers/utd...doesn't look right to me!!It seems that his agent has had a big part in stopping the deal & I can't see him being a Leeds player next week. The frustrating thing is that it is a precious week of the window wasted!

They might have been 6 months ago,but I was at Maine Road last saturday & they are a team in turmoil...they have had a few results recently, but with the financial problems, player relations & a manager who could go at any minute I'm not sure about "desirable"!

I mean no disrespect to ManCity, but Leeds Utd with less strikers is probably more desirable to him than ManCity with Anelka, which is more desirable than Leeds' current situation. I think he knows Leeds will be selling and is willing to wait it out a bit. Or maybe some other team is offering, who knows?? It's all speculation at this point...

I completely agree with you,655321,but he has just come through a medical with flying colours,so the question must be-If he is fully fit,why can't he get a starting place at Leeds?Surely a fit Fowler is a better bet than an overweight Viduka!?

I can't understand it, either. He rarely had starts his last two seasons at Liverpool.
