Pearce has said that he has £10 million to spend in the January transfer window, which is good news. Who do you reckon he should try and sign? If the reports about Joe Cole being unhappy at Chelsea then he could try and sign him, although hes probably worth more than £10 mil. He could either try signing a well-known skilled player whos perhaps got some experience or he could just try buying a few younger players and hope, with experience, they will become really good. I think he'll personally try to get Malbranque from Fulham...

Hope not. Think he's too much of a fancy dan on the pitch. Malbranque would be the better signing.
The Beeb had some rumour about a midfielder at Ajax, although it said Liverpool were also interested in the player mentioned.

If they bought Malbranque in August, he wouldn't have scored 2 goals for Fullham last weekend. This sucks, right now Man City is 7th. We need 2 straight wins to get back to UEFA cup race.

I think Man City should keep the money and pay off debt, they are still heavily under debt. For the long run, pay off the debt first.

I would imagine he's thinking of Carlton Cole, who's been a tad whingey lately.

Joey isn't going anywhere untill the Summer at least.
He's already established himself in the national side, doesn't need to do so anymore - especially given the propensity of the muppet in charge to stick to players he knows, regardless of form or fitness.

well Pearce didnt actually say anything about putting a bid in for Joe Cole, I just said that if the reports about him being unhappy at Chelsea are true then he should consider it

There were some rumours about him being interested in signing him again, but they were only around before the last season ended and I guess if Pearce wanted him back then he would have signed him in the Summer. But you never know...

I would prefer Steven Pienaar from Ajax. He's out of contract at the end of the year so Psycho could get a bargain :)

Pearce will not blow the whole wad of 10 mil. on one or two players. He'll make it go a long way and he probably won't spend all of it. Expect him to go for players from smaller Eurpean leagues like Holland or France or elsewhere. I doubt he'll go after the big names because the big names cost big money.

Coleman admits January fears

Chris Coleman has admitted that he can do little to keep his star players at Fulham.

Steed Malbranque looks set to be the subject of interest from a variety of clubs during the January transfer window, as he continues to stall on signing a new deal with the West Londoners.

He has been linked with both Manchester United and Liverpool in the past, although Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce is also known to be a huge admirer.

It is also believed that Graeme Souness is exploring the possibility of adding Papa Bouba Diop to his Newcastle squad once transfer activity resumes, prompting Coleman to confess that, come the New Year, he will be able to do little more than cross his fingers and hope that his star duo stay with The Cottagers.

"Malbranque and Diop will be the ones mentioned," he admitted.

"There's nothing I can do about it. I have to keep them focused and I hope they will stay.

"It will be the same again this year as it was last year when the transfer window opens and we all try and hold on to our best players."

City keep tabs on Spaniard

Manchester City are reported to be keeping a close eye on Real Betis midfielder Arzu.

The 24-year-old made his way through Betis' youth ranks and has caught the eye this term with his displays in Europe especially.

A fine passer, he demonstrated his eye for goal with a neat finish in the 2-1 home defeat by Liverpool and performed well in the recent return match at Anfield.

Although still not an automatic choice at the Ruiz de Lopera, he is highly regarded and an important part of Lorenzo Serra Ferrer's first-team squad.

However, Betis' increasingly troubled campaign has raised doubts over the future of a number of players with the club currently languishing in the relegation zone in La Primera and out of the UEFA Champions League.

If their fortunes fail to improve over the coming months then a number of high-profile departures are almost certain.

Arzu was trailed by Arsenal in the early part of his career and City are not the only English side currently watching him with Everton also taking a keen interest in his progress.

While a bid in January seems unlikely to bear fruit, the duo will monitor his situation as the season progresses.

Meanwhile, Betis have been dealt a blow with the news that goalkeeper Pedro Contreras faces at least a month on the sidelines after breaking the little finger on his left hand.

The custodian sustained the injury in a training session ahead of last week's goalless UEFA Champions League draw with Liverpool at Anfield.

Toni Doblas took over between the posts for that game and is now the only fit goalkeeper at the club along with youngster David Relano.

Contreras adds to an ever-growing Betis injury-list with Nano, Miguel Angel, Ricardo Oliveira, Dani and Edu all currently in the treatment room.

City continue on Pienaar trail
By Thomas Zeh - Created on 13 Dec 2005

Manchester City are continuing their chase for Ajax's Steven Pienaar.

Although Arsenal are thought to be leading the chase, City and a host of clubs from around Europe are still trying to persuade the South African schemer to join them.

Pienaar confirmed earlier this year that he would not be signing a new contract at Ajax and would therefore be free to sign a pre-contract with any interested club in January - with a view to a Bosman transfer in the summer.

Borussia Dortmund are understood to have put together a very attractive package for Pienaar, although City are looking to try and entice him to Eastlands.

While City and Dortmund try to convince Pienaar of their virtues, Celtic, Werder Bremen, Real Betis and Benfica are also amongst the names looking to make an offer.

Pienaar is set to announce over the next few weeks where his future lies.

Latest news on a player already at the club:

Andy Cole wants to sign a new deal with Manchester City to keep him there until the end of next season. (Daily Mirror)

But this has been going on for some time according to various reports.
He is showing some great form since joining the club, even though many of us Blues were against the signing of Cole for obvious reasons.
However, at his age, I think he has to stake his claim later on in the season, as December is too early for Pearce to get an idea how long Andy "Call me Andrew" Cole can last.
However, a striker is needed, since BWP needs more games, Fowler needs disposing of, and Sibi isn't a striker.

Stuart Pearce wants to extend the deal asap but he has been told to extend his current contract nearer the end of the season because there isn't enough money about and the money he has been given, he is going to use in the transfer window
