Do Celtic have a realistic chance at Roy Keane? In a 3-5-3 can a partnership with Petrov, Lennon, and Keane be in the makings? Add another quality striker and the Bhoys could be in for a Euro party.

There's no space for Keane and Lennon in the same team.

I have to agree. I also agree with Jim Craig's comments.

If we grab Keano i am sure we could loan Lenny out to Livi, I am sure Lambert love that idea. ;)

I say pull the trigger and do the deal. Celtic need some grit and leadership.

Aye...not intentional...but I say play them all three...F$%k that ... Celtic is not a retirement home, if he was such a mad Tim he would have taken less cash and come to Celtic 4 years ago when he still had it.Let him go to Buro or who gives a s%^t.I don't see a spot for him now...Maybe under MON but not now...

Don't want him at Celtic, we can use the money to secure Petrov or bring in a full back.....or two
maybe a good few years ago it would have been worth the hassle not now.

If it was about cash Keane would hardly have ever mentioned Celtic. His leadership, experience, and drive could only mean good things for Celtic.

Celtic have surely won the league this season and they're not in Europe. They'd be paying Keane an awful lot of money in the meantime in the hope that he can still do something next season.

Well, he can only sign in January as far as I know and he could be the key difference in Europe between being knocked out early and making a serious go of things next year. Personally I'd prefer to see him play in Serie A or La Liga for a year or two but Celtic seems far more realistic, and I don't understand how anyone could not want him in the side.

I think he can be got right now, as he is a free agent (going by Footie Manager experience here, so take it for what it's worth ;)).
And Keane is/was still the 2nd best DM in the Premiership and would make Celtic a much better team... he is a great simple passer, still one of the very best in the world - for almost every season (incl. last) for years he topped the Premiership in passes completed. And that is before his experience, other skills and leadership are taken into account. He is old, but very much worth it, and the slower pace of the SPL compared to the EPL will make him even more effective.

I think we're both right (or wrong, but I'm going with the half-full view here ;)) - according to this he can sign for a club now but not play until January. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/4451986.stm)
Whichever club Keane joins he will not be able to make his debut for them until 1 January.
Although Keane's United contract was cancelled "by mutual consent", Fifa rules stipulate that no player subject to such a move would be allowed to sign for a new club outside the next available transfer window.

I was pretty surprised at the mixed response myself, altho I'd imagine the majority of Celtic fans are hopeful he will sign. The dissenters seem to base their arguments on 1.) money, 2.) youth development, 3.) how he would fit into the team, 4.) Keane as a disruptive force, that 5.) he's past his prime and 6.) injuries. I'm not convinced really by any of them.

It's kinda funny that the four people on this page that are saying Keane would be great for Celtic are also Ireland fans. :D
