Okay, here is the deal. I have had Bearshare b/4 and the computer technician that helped me believes it was the cause of my system getting the same bad virus twice.
(basically over time my computer would freeze.)
Anyway, my computer is now fixed, but I dont have any filesharing software yet that I like. I tried Aries, but it sucks and is basically useless.
I put in a second hardrive that I never use, and would like to know if I install Bearshare ON THAT drive vs my primary one, will my overall computer be safe if I pick up unwanted viruses/spyware..
I am not sure how it works. Basically, my question is if any possible corrupt file downloads stay on the backup drive, will my overall system and stuff on the primary be safe, even if I access the files through my regular startup?

Have you scanned your backup?
Also...try a good place called
zeropaid.com
If you are looking for a file sharing program....they rate them all and test them..its run by users so you get the first person point of view.

I will check that site out.
I know the backup is virus free b/c I had the guy totally check it out and erase it. So as of now I am virus free on both drives.

Ok...well thats a good start...I dont know if it will help..I used to have a folder I set up where I would direct all my downloads to. * named unscanned...before I would open any of the files in that folder I woud do a virus scan on its contents..A bit over kill, but hey works.
Unsure if that helps or is what you are asking?

kind of. I guess part of the problem is I am not sure exactly how a virus/spyware work.
By the way, I checked that website, and ALL the reviews say they have spyware, and the "spyware" claims are not true.
So basically, assuming I WILL GET SPYWARE at some point, I guess my question is does it help if I keep the program, and the downloaded files isolated on that backup drive and access them through my boot up c: drive?
Or will they still effect my operating system regardless of which drive I boot from?
Or am I just confused?

Your software for backing up your system sould have a go back feature. so you can set a point where you know for a fact that your system is clean. If you are a heavy downloader, Backup before each session of your downloading..and virus scan after each session. That way you are doing a virus scan on you startup drive...and know it is safe to backup to your 2nd drive. You can always boot from your backup drive if you have a major issue with your main.

I think you guys are talking past each other.
If you install a second hard drive - ie, in the computer at the same time as your primary (which is what I think you are saying), then NO, the spyware won't give a flying leap which hard drive the OS is on and which the sharing software is on.
Now, if you actually back up your system to that 2nd drive (via Norton Ghost or similar), then you could restore from the backup if you manage to corrupt your main drive. But that's a different thing than installing file-sharing software to a different hard drive than the OS drive.

Okay, this is what I am talking about. In other words, my system is set to boot off of my C: drive. If I then go into "my computer" click on the D: (backup where I will install the bearshare) and run the software and save there, will my C: drive/and registry be immune? I think you are telling me yes. (just double checking)
I really dont care what happens to the D: drive, I can always reinstall it..
